The works to improve access to the castle, including the asphalting of the Murviedro road, begin their work with an investment of 1.2 million (31/01/2018)

It is an intervention financed by the Regional Government and executed by the Ministry of Development.

The works include the consolidation of the road from the La Parroquia road.

The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, along with the General Director of Roads of the CARM, José Antonio Fernández Lladó, and the Councilman of Works and Rural Development of the City of Lorca, Angel Meca, have supervised this morning the start of the works included in the project to improve access to the castle.

This is a very ambitious and necessary action undertaken by the Regional Government that includes works to improve access to the castle and its connection with the southern part of the city.

The First Edil said that the importance of this action is especially relevant and of maximum utility, since, among other improvements, asphalt and widens the alternative access up and down the castle through Murviedro and the neighborhood of San José .

We speak of having a secure communication and in conditions to the site of the greatest monumental exponent of our historical heritage, such as the castle of Lorca, as well as its upper neighborhoods.

Finally we will have an alternative access to the "standard" of our history, while works are carried out to permanently consolidate the rock mass on which it sits, improve the road currently paved and improve the safety of the slope of the solid towards the road of La Parroquia.

Fulgencio Gil has stressed that the project of a new Lorca, includes the improvement of the communications network that backbone our municipality.

A Lorca strong, modern and future is to have roads and roads in the best conditions, and for this we are allocating more than 60 million euros in recent times, a battery of interventions that contributes to the growth of our municipality and the that we will continue to deepen in the future.

The model of city that we Lorca are endowing with this new Lorca is projected in time beyond the time horizon of 2025. It is an ambitious project, exciting, serious and of which we are all protagonists, and now we will not allow no one stopped him.

A new 1.3 kilometer road will be built to facilitate the arrival of tourists to the fortress and the National Parador that will connect with the San José neighborhood through the Murviedro area, while the current road will be repaired.

The slopes of the road will also be secured in its slope to the road that connects with La Parroquia, which are formed by rocky massifs that sometimes cause landslides on the road and prevent access to the castle

The Ministry of the Presidency and Development invests more than 1.2 million euros in these works, including the remodeling of the access road and ring road to the castle of Lorca, actions that have an execution period of eight months.

The general director of Roads, stressed that "they are especially relevant because there will be a new way of communication to facilitate the arrival of the many tourists who visit the castle and the National Parador".

The works are divided into four phases and, according to Fernández Lladó, "they start with the stabilization of a landslide in the north zone", by means of the execution of a wall of retained concrete rock, 30 meters long.

The second phase will reinforce safety by consolidating the slopes of the road, which will prevent landslides on the road, through a protective mesh constituted by a network of interwoven cables.

At present, the slopes are formed by rocky clumps disgregados and unstable that sometimes cause landslides on the road and disrupt access to the castle.

Subsequently, a new road connecting the castle to the southern part of the city, more than 1.3 kilometers long and 8 meters wide, will be built.

This new infrastructure will improve the conditions of circulation, accessibility and security to this area so important for the municipality.

This intervention includes installing vertical and horizontal signs along the entire road, bionda protective barriers for drivers and anti-glare screens in the section parallel to the A-7.

The last phase of the works will focus, on the one hand, on the conditioning of the existing road to repair the deterioration and deformations that hinder the passage of vehicles and, on the other, on the extension of the platform, in order to adapt it to the level of traffic that it supports at present.

It will also be the resurfacing of the current road access to the castle on a stretch of 1.61 kilometers and improving the signaling and drainage of this road.
