The Mayor affirms that the Daughters of Charity constitute an "example of social commitment and commitment," especially with children at risk of social exclusion (08/02/2018)

The Daughters of Charity of San Vicente de Paúl, in collaboration with the Lorca Consistory, develop the "Alca" Project, through which different activities are carried out with the children of the Barrios Altos, as well as the "Renacer" Project , thanks to which teenage mothers acquire training and social skills.

The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, accompanied by the Councilors of Family and Health in the City of Lorca, Sandra Martinez and Maria del Carmen Ruiz, visited this morning the nursery of San José de Calasanz to see firsthand the projects that were they develop by the Daughters of Charity of San Vicente de Paúl, framed in the social work Santa Luisa de Marillac, in collaboration with several management areas of the Lorca Consistory.

Fulgencio Gil pointed out that "the projects that we share and in which we actively collaborate from the City Council with the Daughters of Charity of San Vicente de Paúl are related to two groups that present very particular needs, such as minors and adolescents. For the first of the groups mentioned above, we are carrying out the "Alca" Project, which has a municipal subsidy of 4,500 euros and in which different activities are carried out with the children of the Barrios Altos, the "Renacer" Project, on the other hand, is carried out with the group of young women at risk of social exclusion and thanks to the same municipal officials offer these girls different training activities and social skills acquisition.With the development of this project we are talking about offering new opportunities and effective alternatives to help teenage mothers and young girls precisely when they need it most. "

Project "Alca"

The Socio-Educational Project Alca (alternative to the street) is a resource aimed at improving the quality of life, children and adolescents, promoting from a socio-educational content the healthy and comprehensive evolution of children.

It is intended for 100 children between the ages of 3 and 16 whose situation is considered to be socially risky, such as school absenteeism and problems in the family;

being the group to which the project is directed, mostly coming from the most unprotected neighborhoods of the city and performing the same outside school hours. The process of attention ends when the user has met the objectives, when they have reached the majority of age and pass, satisfactorily, to another educational level.

In addition, it should be noted that thanks to the great work done by the Sisters of Charity some children continue to go as volunteers to the entity.

After school hours, specifically from 4 to 7:30 p.m., the professionals carry out educational, cultural, sports and recreational activities with the children, among other aspects.

In this sense, a school of parents is also carried out in which they are given information on social, educational and cultural resources, training sessions and coexistence between children and parents take place.

In addition, it is also intended to carry out social and family follow-up work, coordinated with the different agencies that collaborate in the field of the child.

Project "Rebirth"

The "Renacer" Project is intended for the social integration of young women who are mothers.

Through it, comprehensive care is provided to women between 16 and 20 who are in a situation of disadvantage, exclusion, risk or social conflict, and also to those who are pregnant.

The users will receive a training in values, academic updating and learning a trade with the aim of changing their own reality.

This work is being carried out by municipal officials of the Department of Health and Consumer Affairs and Family and Social Welfare, which give students a training for job search, health, emotional and sexual in a multidisciplinary sense, as well as in consumption and publicity, in addition to making craft workshops.

The Health Workshop includes a course on food handling and the elaboration and internalization of basic health, hygiene, food and personal care norms, as well as knowledge, skills, behavior habits and values ​​related to sexuality proper in order that learn to take measures in defense of their health, as well as to avoid unwanted pregnancies;

and contents related to risks (biological, medical, psychosocial, family and baby) are also taught, as well as complications of pregnancy at this age, such as: maternal, perinatal and newborn conditions, toxemia, eclampsia, traumas obstetricians, nutritional risk, among other aspects.

In terms of consumption and advertising, a series of basic knowledge of legislation and defense of consumer rights is transferred to them, as well as the possibilities offered by the Municipal Consumer Information Office (OMIC) to enforce their rights and the procedure to Continue to fill out the Claim Sheets. In addition, they also receive, among other issues, awareness-raising workshops related to sustainable consumption in which everyday issues are addressed such as learning to differentiate the information we receive within telephony bills, supply of electricity, gas and water and know how different types of advertising influence our consumption habits.

The Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, also known as the Sisters of Charity, are a female Catholic religious congregation founded on November 29, 1633 and dedicated to the corporal and spiritual service of the sick poor.

In Lorca its history begins in 1911 when the Association of San José de Calasanz, "Protectora de Niños Abandados", was constituted, later, in 1931 the Association delivered the work to the Company of the Daughters of Charity, which would be directly responsible for the children.

In 1999, the "Alca" Project was launched, after an analysis of the reality of the minors in the neighborhood of San Pedro, in which it was found that many children of school age were on the street during after-school hours, as many parents They worked in the field. In 2014, the "Renacer" Project became operational, a very useful tool for the social integration of young women in our city.
