The Councilor for Development and Infrastructure of the City of Lorca, Angel Meca, reported this morning that the Lorca Consistory has invested more than 110,000 euros in repairing the acts of vandalism produced during the last year in various municipal public infrastructures.
Ángel Meca has indicated that "during the last year Lorca is suffering from the misconduct of a few offenders who are attacking public use infrastructures, mainly, subtraction of electrical cables and boxes, as well as destruction in parks, gardens and street furniture.
As for public lighting, the replacement and repair of the damage and the stolen items have cost the municipal coffers more than 70,000 euros, while the damage produced in public areas for the enjoyment of all Lorca have amounted to 40,000 euros.
In this sense, it should be noted that during 2017 there has been a decline in the theft of electrical wiring but there has been an upturn in the destruction of parks, gardens and street furniture ".
The Councilor for Development has stated that "there have been damages to municipal property in the neighborhoods of La Viña, San Antonio, Alfonso X, San Jose, El Calvario, San Roque, San Pedro, Santa Maria, San Diego, Los Angeles, as in Cabezo Casas Blancas, Cabezo Marines, Santa Clara Park, La Verdad Park, Diego Pallarés Park, La Peñica, Mayor Miguel Navarro Footbridge, La Alberca, Alamedas, Virgen de la Amargura Square, Plaza de Colón, José Blanco Tax Plaza , Ronda Sur, Rambla de los 17 Arcos and La Salud;
while the subtraction of electrical wiring and destruction of public lighting have been carried out, mainly, in the districts of La Hoya, Rio, Ramonete, Coy and Avilés, and in different locations in the urban area such as Carretera de Murcia, Crossing Alcalde Antonio Pelegrín Molina, Journalist Huertas Galindo Street, Santa Clara Avenue and Caravaca Highway ".
Mecca has added that "in parks, gardens and street furniture the acts of vandalism that have occurred have been the breakage and theft of trees, destruction of urban furniture (wastebaskets, benches, fountains, concrete and wooden tables, irrigation system, fences , glass and toilets, among others) and damage and thefts produced in parks (playgrounds, biosaludables games, fences, rubber of the children's area, doors, toilets, aviary and painted, ...).
In terms of public lighting, damages have been made in public lighting register boxes, electrical lines and installations, ornamental street lamps and light bulbs and in the subtraction of copper electrical wiring ".
The Development Minister has pointed out that "these vandalism episodes that threaten the public adornment can not be allowed because it means destroying elements of the urban furniture that all Lorca enjoy. The repair of this type of destruction costs a lot of money to the municipal coffers and , therefore, to all Lorca, so it is not acceptable that a few people destroy what belongs to all residents of this municipality.
Ángel Meca stressed that "the Local Police is registering a report with abundant photographic material of all the damages that take place in our municipality, at the same time that the Heritage Service of the City continues to carry out the pertinent damage assessment to present the corresponding complaints in the National Police Commissariat as in the Command of the Civil Guard of Lorca in order that they can initiate an investigation to identify the vandals whenever acts of these characteristics occur.
To date from the Lorca Consistory we have submitted almost twenty complaints for theft of electrical wiring and street lighting.
The Councilor for Development has indicated that "the Local Police is working hand in hand with the National Police and the Civil Guard to carry out throughout the municipality security devices to locate the vandals, as well as ending these episodes to through the intensification of surveillance in areas where more damage is detected.
Citizen security units as well as the center's service will participate in this device. "
Mecca has announced that "we will be implacable with those who attempt against urban furniture and public infrastructures.
From the City Council we carry out a continuous effort to make Lorca look as good as possible, as Lorca deserve, and therefore you can not consent to people who want to destroy the public ornate for fun.
