The PSOE wants Lorca to be the European headquarters of world conferences of the Judeo-Spanish language (06/03/2018)

The Socialists see Lorca as the ideal city for holding lectures on Ladino language in Spain, for the broad Jewish legacy.

They assure that this proposal would be a great asset for our economy, through this tourist and cultural product "differentiating" the rest of Spanish cities with past hebrero

The councilor of the PSOE in the City of Lorca, María Antonia García Jiménez has asked the Mayor, and the departments of Culture and Tourism to work to offer "from now" to Lorca as a city for the celebration of world conferences of the Judeo-Spanish language, post that the broad Jewish legacy makes Lorca "ideal city" to host this type of event.

On February 20, 2018, the Director of the Royal Academy (RAE), and president of the Association of the Academies of the Spanish Language (ASALE), Mr. Darío Villanueva, announced the creation of the National Judeo-Spanish Academy in Israel, also known as ladga lenga, which the Jews took with them after their expulsion from Spain in 1492 and which is the unifying element of the Sephardic culture.

Given this "historical" fact, García Jiménez assures that one could work for Lorca to advance to other Spanish cities with a Jewish past, and to contact the Royal Spanish Academy, the Hispano-Jewish Foundation and the Nasionala Ladino Authority and his Kultura, In order to anticipate and offer our city as headquarters, outside the Israeli State, to organize the first and successive world conferences of the Judeo-Spanish language.

García Jiménez says that the vast Jewish legacy that counts the city of Lorca should be put in value.

The synagogue not desecrated and the surroundings of the Castle, the possibilities that would lead to the new excavations for the Sephardic identity and the already visible archaeological remains, or the vocation of integration of the three cultures in the San Clemente festivities make Lorca "ideal city" "to host this type of events.

The mayor says that if Lorca were the host of the congresses of this Spanish language, preserved thanks to the tenacity of "a people who never stopped yearning for Shefarat," would be a great asset for our economy, which would open up to the desired tourism of conferences, and to gather intellectual prestige at international level, also through this type of celebrations.

"We would be offering, insists, a cultural and tourist product differentiating the rest of other Spanish cities with a Hebrew past".

For this reason, María Antonia García has urged the government team to "innovate" and to work "from now" to offer the city of Lorca to the future and immediate Academy of the Judeo-Spanish Language.

In addition, they have requested the creation of a Sephardic study center in coordination with the Spanish and Ladino language academies.
