The Mayor highlights the enormous effort made by the professionals of the pig, who have promoted Lorca as an international reference in production and research (13/04/2018)

Fulgencio Gil anticipates that he will take a motion in the Consistory's next plenary session in defense of the activity of the livestock sector, in the face of the political attacks, manipulations and boycotts that he is suffering in recent times.

The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, has accentuated the extraordinary work that is being developed in our municipality by the professionals of the swine livestock sector, who have achieved thanks to their continuous effort, that our region is currently the true reference in the matter on a national scale.

Lorca can be proud of the leadership we have achieved in Spain in swine production.

The most recent data regarding the cattle herd in this area in Lorca indicate that we have reached 652 pig farms, which bring together 601,388 heads.

This figure includes 45,880 breeder mothers, 498 boars and 126,361 piglets.

We are talking about figures that certify the enormous movement that is being registered in the sector, placing our municipality as an example at all levels.

These data should serve as a stimulus to continue advancing in the optimization of our farms, the treatment of their materials and the reconciliation of activity in our districts.

Fulgencio Gil has indicated that all Lorca are aware of the great progress being made by professionals in the sector to have farms perfectly conditioned to legal and environmental parameters, an effort that has yielded positive results and patents, especially in recent years.

The Mayor stressed that thanks to the livestock activity, and especially the swine area, thousands of jobs are generated for Lorca, both directly and indirectly and induced, so we can say that has been configured as the fundamental pillar of the agri-food sector, together with agriculture.

It has been stated with great success that the history of Lorca is the history of the struggle for water, a factor of struggle and vindication that has marked the daily work of this land.

In the same way, and with the same tact, we can affirm that the growth of our region is intrinsically linked to the development of the pig sector.

Proof of this is the extraordinary degree of excellence at the international level that we can find each year in the National Week of Swine Cattle (Sepor), which brings together the most outstanding specialists and researchers in this field.

Fulgencio Gil explained that the social, economic and labor impact that the pig sector offers Lorca benefits all citizens, assuming an economic impact of outstanding proportions not only for our city, but for the entire Region of Murcia.

The weight of Lorca as head of the region has been achieved, to a large extent, thanks to the growth that has been achieved by professionals in this sector, and that is something that we have to put in value.

Our subregional capital also derives from the social and economic repercussions generated by the pig.

The Mayor said that from the City of Lorca we are committed to helping professionals in the sector, working hand in hand with them to implement all those measures that contribute to grow as a municipality.

Therefore, in the next session of the full Municipal Council we will present a motion in defense of the sector, highlighting the reality of those who work every day to continue maintaining thousands of jobs, while optimizing the social reconciliation of their activity professional.

Fulgencio Gil has shown his rejection to the fact that in recent times we are witnessing multiple attacks, criticisms and manipulations against the workers of the pig before what we can not stand idly by.

These attacks are a true "harakiri", since some have insisted on throwing stones against their own roof.

It is a completely incomprehensible attitude, sheltered in falsehoods and populisms whose consequences have not been valued by those who are doing them.

This has to stop.

The Mayor recalled that those who criticize so much are the ones that burst the agreement that all the municipal groups had reached within the Mesa for the Conciliation of La Huerta, a working group that we decided to put in place to advance the harmonization of land uses in our field.

With that boycott, made at the last moment just before proceeding to its ratification in the plenary session of the Town Hall, they showed that their real intention is not to help Lorca, but to use tortilla and politically those whom they can deceive.

The First Edil has made these statements in the course of the visit to a pig farm where he has been accompanied by the Councilors of Livestock and Decentralization, Angel Meca and Javier Pelegrin, as well as by the President of the Association of Health Defense of Porcine Cattle of Lorca (ADESPOLORCA), Francisco Román, and the Manager of Sepor, Patry Bermúdez.
