The City Council allocated € 104,000 for the modernization and comprehensive improvement of the Municipal Archaeological Museum (21/07/2010)

The work will, among other things, that the museum has air conditioning in their rooms, as well as the adequacy of access for the disabled.

The Councillor for Culture of the Municipality of Lorca, Maria Rosa Medina, has been reported that the city council has allocated a total amount of 104,000 euros for the modernization and comprehensive improvement of the Municipal Archaeological Museum.

Going into the details of this work themselves, it is noteworthy that the project includes the complete rehabilitation of the building, and improving energy efficiency and the removal of architectural barriers, benefiting visitors and providing the artifacts of a better habitability and conservation status.

The mayor of Culture has stressed that the current collection of the Municipal Archaeological Museum gathers around the 5,400 artifacts ranging from prehistoric times to the Middle Ages, through articles Iberians, Roma and Arabs.

Of particular importance is the funerary equipment found in Sacred Cave, exhibited at the museum since 1992, and the extensive collection of coins and medals.

The Archaeological Lorca completed just this year has come of age, 18 years.

In 2009 he was visited by 12,000 people.

Mínguez Medina stated that the need to undertake such works arises from the momentum that the City Council has taken in the matter of improving equity.

Reform efforts will include completion of work on the facade of the building to eliminate any moisture, as well as improving the climate in the exhibition halls of the first and second floors.

It is also envisaged the removal of architectural bar at the main entrance to the museum and exhibition hall.

The Municipal Archaeological Museum is located in the heart of Lorca, in the main square of Juan Moreno, a former House of Salazar, also known as the Moreno.

This is a building that its author is unknown, although it has emerged that was built in the early seventeenth century.

The building is characterized by strong architectural character, which follows the Italian models of his time.

Potent treatment to improve the entrance and facade of the museum

The Councillor of Culture has stated that in regard to works that are designed to make the rehabilitation of the facade and lobby, has projected the elimination of wetlands in the existing stone plinth in the main facade by cleaning it and applying a water repellent based on siloxanes.

They are also going to proceed with the replacement of some parts of both the socket and its auction.

For the removal of moisture detected in the main entrance, it will come to the realization of a cladding of plasterboard panels from galvanized steel, placing grids for the aeration of the camera performed.

A climate more friendly to environment

The overall improvement of the Archaeological Museum also includes the air conditioning by installing a modern, efficient heating system guarantees a very high energy efficiency by being able to control the power consumption of appliances, such as the fully temperature of each zone individually.

It thus increase both the comfort of the interior areas, as that room is heated only being used and the heat load required at all times.

A 100% adjusted museum to visit disabled

The works include the adequacy of the main entrance to the museum to facilitate disabled access.

For this purpose, will have to replace the tiled porch hall tiles and rising Millennial Column, with the installation of a metal.

It is also envisaged the relocation of telecommunications facilities and alarm, the placement of new sign designed for high traffic.

For correct access to the first floor will have a stair crawler capable of transporting wheelchairs with a maximum load of 130 kilos.
