Cerda said that the Region of Murcia has exceeded the safety standard animal health (09/09/2010)

The region of Guadalentín concentrates more than 40 percent of pig farms in the Region

The Minister of Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerdá, said today that the animal disease prevention network in the Region of Murcia ensures "optimal health" of livestock Murcia.

The owner of Agriculture and Water made the remarks during the presentation of the National Week XLIII Pigs (SEPOR), held in Lorca from 13 to 16 September in which he was accompanied by the Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar and SEPOR manager, Patrick Bermudez.

Cerda said that in the Region of Murcia "we are very strict to comply with all health aspects" to export pigs to levels of food safety and quality required by European and international market both in Russia and Asia, whose product entry regulations "are very demanding."

Agriculture responsible for the regional government said the "good results" achieved with the implementation of the Animal Health Programs.

"We have exceeded the standard of animal health security," said the Minister of Agriculture and Water, who noted that work is currently focused on preventing animal diseases "expanding and modernizing the network of disinfection of vehicles transporting animals," as which opened this week in the town of Lorca.

The Minister of Agriculture and Water noted that infectious diseases such as AD, "are the main obstacle which may limit the marketing of animals and meat", and stressed the "great coordination" between the regional government and industry to "develop all the actions of disease prevention. "

The Murcia region leads, with the province of Lleida, pig production in Spain, with an index of consumer sacrifice for more than four million hogs annually.

The Community has a census of 2,100 pig farms, of which 40 percent are located in the town of Lorca and the High Guadalentín.

This sector in Murcia 10,000 direct jobs and annual revenue of 340 million euros, representing 70 percent of the final output density and 20 percent of the regional final agricultural production.
