New tourist attraction in Lorca with visits to the old Jewish quarter (20/09/2010)

The Director General of Tourism, Marina Garcia, opened today with the Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, the first phase of the archaeological park in the Jewish quarter of the castle of Lorca, whose objective is the consolidation and enhancement of the medieval remains of eastern sector, in the space it occupied in the late Medieval period the Jewish Quarter.

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism has provided a total of 60,000 euros for this first phase, through the consortium Lorca Taller del Tiempo.

Garcia wanted to emphasize that "this opening and value of these archaeological remains is an important competition because we are beginning to discover how it formed the Jewish quarter, that quarter of Alcalá, immediately after the Christian conquest in the thirteenth century. I think that will make all Lorca and Murcia in general know what happened to Lorca and how they developed the population thereof. "

He also noted that "from the tourism point of view this fact is of fundamental importance as we are providing a first class tourism product to the city."

The actions carried out under the Director Plan, Fortaleza del Sol Parador, aim to set medium term, an archaeological park designed to show the historical and archaeological castle and make it available to all citizens.

Also, will set up a space entirely dedicated to research, and their restoration and enhancement will be the connection between the musealized sector Fortaleza del Sol and the remains found and preserved in the eastern area.

Other actions

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism has invested in 2009 about 165,000 euros for three shares for infrastructure and two routes, all on the town of Lorca.
