Lorca Mayor announced that the City has taken steps for the restoration of the Palace of Guevara (27/09/2010)

Jódar Francisco has reported that already has approved the beginning of the procedure for drafting the conservation and restoration of the building.

The Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, announced this morning that the town council has taken steps necessary for the comprehensive settlement of the Palace of Guevara.

The mayor explained that the Board and the Government of September 17 started the record for drafting the conservation and restoration of the Palace of Guevara.

We are talking about the first step towards the comprehensive regeneration of the largest civil building Lorca, a baroque jewel of a flag inside and outside our city.

This is the most important baroque palace in Southeast Spanish.

One of the main objectives of the Town Council is the restoration and conservation of the extraordinary art treasure that is the heritage we have inherited.

This performance reflects the commitment of municipal councils with the restoration of our featured properties from the cultural point of view.

Fruits of this commitment, we find today in the recovery of the churches of Santa Maria, to retrieve the San Juan, the start of work in San Patricio is imminent, as well as the improvement works at the Sanctuary Virgen de las Huertas, in San Cristóbal and San José.

In addition we will recover Argaric numerous sites, such as fennel (Barranco de la Viuda) and Rincon in Almendricos (whose project is in the Department of Fine Arts for approval.)

The Mayor reported that for the comprehensive regeneration of the building is expected to invest 5 million euros, relying for this first step with an amount of 81,200 euros, money needed for the drafting of the project.

This amount has been fully funded by the Autonomous Region through the Department of Fine Arts and Cultural Assets.

The jewel of Baroque Levantine

On the first floor the main program is developed for housing the palace and has an approximate area of 676 m².

On the second floor now houses the Municipal School of Painting and Municipal Restoration Workshop and has an approximate area of 467 m².
