The city hopes to host next year a dozen European youth projects (28/12/2010)

With this set of projects, Lorca seeks to highlight its profile as a "city youth experience" in Europe.

The councilman of Youth council of Lorca, Joaquin Ruiz Montalvan, has reported that the office of youth and diversity of the city council will present its candidature to host the development of a dozen projects for participation, multiculturalism and volunteerism among young people European level.

Ruiz Montalvan stressed that through this set of programs intended to underline his profile Lorca as "city youth experience" in Europe.

The projects that the city will put on the table are:

1) Proposal "Guatemala."

Description: Plan Advanced Education in Human Rights and Democratic Citizenship.

This project is essential objectives:

1.

Promotion and protection of the rights of women, indigenous peoples, children and adolescents and persons with disabilities and implementation of legal framework in its favor, the fight against discrimination.

2.

Training of social networks, public utilities, high-profile political leadership, strengthening of indigenous authorities, capacity for dialogue and articulation of civil society organizations.

3.

Adequacy of an educational strategy oenegés joint local and national education system that puts human rights education among students under the age of the major cities of Guatemala.

The project envisages mainstreaming approaches such disparate subjects as gender, indigenous peoples, youth and children and the environment.

2) Proposal "Yia".

"Volunteers are a step forward" (Volunteers take a step forward).

Aims to strengthen the role of volunteers in education in human rights and strengthen their skills in the face that can best serve in a cohesive and democratic society.

Its specific objectives are:

1.

Improving the skills of volunteers in the area of Human Rights Education (promoting awareness of human rights issues).

2.

Motivating young volunteers and young technicians to work directly with volunteers and help in planning and carrying out projects of human rights education and equipping them with the tools for it.

3.

Providing a forum for exchange of knowledge and good practices as well as create the basis for strong cooperation among participants.

4.

Contribute to development and quality of youth work by investing in the education of future volunteers locally.

3) Project participatory democracy.

Youth in Action "Speak Europe."

Its purpose is to give youth from different European countries the opportunity to learn from an experiential perspective the European Parliament through a simulation of it in the young participants to take the place of parliamentarians and discuss various political, socio-economic and democratic that are particular to the European Union.

Its objectives are:

1.

European citizenship from the point of view of experiential learning.

2.

Encourage debate among young people from different European countries on issues of interest to the European Union.

3.

Enhance young people's critical thinking and different ways to have influence and participate in making decisions of the European youth policy.

4) Volunteers in Action (VEA)

A) Purpose: To promote active citizenship of young people and their European citizenship, promoting cooperation in the field of youth.

This will invite the exchange of youth belonging to associations working with young volunteers from Romania and France.

The exchange is a continuation of Mauguio made in July this year.

B) Objectives:

1.

Encourage and support through sharing experiences, efforts by the European Union (EU) member states and regional and local authorities to promote volunteering in the EU

2.

Promoting the active citizenship of the participants in the exchange.

3.

Exchange best practices among the young participants and volunteers in their home organization and encourage volunteering among young people in their local communities.

These best practices will be collected eventually in a final document and a website designed by young people of the three participating groups.

4.

Lorca know different organizations who regularly work with young volunteers.

5.

Volunteer to perform different actions during the course of trade in Lorca.

5) "White Space"

A) Purpose:

Facilitate awareness among youth about the benefits and potential of art as experiential method of learning and personal and professional growth that can be used in projects for JEA and especially those involving young people at risk of social exclusion.

B) Objectives:

1.

Facilitate the exchange of practices and experiences among participants in terms of personal and professional development of young technicians and young people with whom they work.

2.

Exploring the relationships between young people and youth workers who work with them and see what needs exist in the relationship.

3.

Identify the emotional resistance, prejudice, individual and group roles as a first step in awareness of each participant.

4.

Familiarize participants with the potential of art as a method of working with young people at risk of social exclusion and facilitate a process of personal and professional growth.

5.

Give participants the space for self-awareness and reflection on their own identity, needs, motivations and goals.

6.

Motivate and build self-esteem of participants and their creativity in the face to help them reach their potential when planning future activities with other young people in Europe.

6) European Youth Foundation (Council of Europe): February 1.

The goal is to help support the activities related to the promotion and protection of Human Rights and Diversity Office for Youth in 2011.

The annual work program provides for the implementation of the following activities:

a) 2 Living Libraries (in International Book Day on April 23 and on the International Day of Human Rights, 10 December)

b) Campaign for Human Rights Education in the IES in all of Lorca and hamlets that will involve workshops and educational activities in secondary schools as well as 1 coexistence 1 weekend in House Churches for a group of 45 young people of the municipality in International Day for the Rights of the Child.

All this from March to December 2011.

c) Advice to immigrants on their fundamental rights and immigration.

d) 1 training course for professionals in the social and youth on Human Rights Education and intercultural mediation.

7) TYPE D: Living Library

The project has been approved by the European Youth Foundation with an amount of 5,000 euros.

The purpose of it is to hold a Living Library for March 20, 2011 focused on racism taking advantage of the World Day Against Racism to be held on March 21, 2011.

8) European Youth Foundation (Council of Europe): April 1.

Type A: Youth Meeting on Immigration and Human Rights Education.

Youth Exchange for the rights of migrants to be held in Lorca in summer 2011.

The project would be funded by the European Youth Foundation and provide for the implementation of a youth exchange in Lorca 1 to 7 September on the occasion of International Migrants Day on 4 September.

The objectives of this exchange are:

1.

Promote awareness among young people in relation to inequality and discrimination suffered by immigrants in Europe and particularly in times of economic crisis.

2.

Facilitate the exchange of experiences at European level between the young participants of Lorca and those from the 10 participating European countries (France, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Russia, Serbia, Croatia, Italy, Romania, Poland and Georgia).

3.

Encourage the joint group of participants of a local business plan to promote the rights of migrants in their hometowns.

9) "Grundtvig": 25 February.

Project "Seniors in Action"

It is a multilateral cooperation project between 5 European countries (Switzerland, Spain, Italy, France and Romania) to promote active participation and dialogue between generations of older persons in volunteer activities in non-formal education but within the framework of IES in the municipality of Lorca.

The project would begin in the month of October 2011 and ending in February 2014, two years).

10) "Grundtvig Workshop: Seminar on the competence of the trainer in intercultural contexts."

A) Purpose: To provide participants with the necessary tools to develop their skills as trainers in intercultural contexts.

B) Objectives:

1.

Conceptualize the terms Culture, Multiculturalism and Interculturalism.

2.

Analyze the characteristics, values, customs of the cultures of immigrants.

3.

Explore the characterization of intercultural group: concept, types, structure, roles.

4.

Detect and analyze the needs of intercultural groups.
