The new Youth Space Lorca opens its doors next fall (18/01/2011)

The authorities opened the Cultural Fund of CAM Espin, which reopens its doors to the exhibition 'Goya, whims and destinations', and the sculpture 'fullness', the artist Lola Fernández Lorca Arcas

The new building Lorca Youth Space, which will open next fall and will serve more than 20,000 youth in the municipality, is emerging as a modern and functional space suitable for the needs of the youth group.

The works, whose foundation stone slipped today the Minister of Presidency and Public Administration, María Pedro Reverte, and the mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, are funded entirely by the Autonomous Region with a total budget of 1,369,711 euros.

Young Space Lorca, built on city-owned parcel located on the Marin Trail, an area of urban development, will house the headquarters Informajoven and youth associations and the Youth Council of Lorca.

The building will also have an auditorium, several rehearsal rooms, cafeteria, study hall and computer room.

Design by youth

For the development of the construction project of the new Youth Space, the city of Lorca launched www.espaciojoven.lorca.es web portal, where local youths contributed nearly 700 suggestions and ideas on the future building, and architects and technicians have joined the original idea, to give shape to plants are built.

The building of 1,200 square meters, will have three floors and a basement, and its construction emphasizes the use of materials that can have a sustainable building.

The design looks a functional structure with layered volumes which take advantage of natural lighting.

Espin Cultural Fund Reopening

After the ceremony of laying the first stone of the local Youth Space, the minister, the mayor and the president of the Territorial Council of Caja Mediterráneo (CAM), Angel Martinez, launched the Cultural Fund Espin, located in Loch Street, After the renovation, rehabilitation and expansion that have taken place in this building from the XVIII century.

The Cultural Fund Espin contains 3,200 funds comprising books, 300 prints and drawings, 2,000 photographs, 270 tables, 250 objects of archaeological value and more than 10,000 documents of historic value of the XV to XX.

Caja Mediterráneo was the Cultural Center, whose renovation has paid in full the financial institution, from the legacy received from the family of Enrique Espin.

The renovation project began in late 2007 and has expanded the area for library and a redistribution of spaces and conference room, multipurpose room and several local fixed or permanent exhibitions.

After these works, the building also has a new floor and a penthouse as a skylight, with a combined total area of 616 sq meters.

This new stage of cultural institution begins with the exhibition 'Goya, whims and destinations', composed of 160 original prints of the artist Aragon, of which 80 belong to the series' Los Caprichos' and many others to' The Disasters of War '.

Officials also unveiled the sculpture 'fullness', designed by the artist Lola Fernández Lorca Arcas, located in the new round of Apolonia neighborhood, which has been donated by the municipality lorquino CAM.

The work shows an angel swinging under the sun symbolically representing the city of Lorca.

The set is presented as a 'Gate of the Sun' which welcomes those entering the town.
