Melchor Morales reveals that the water desalination Eagles ascribed to the traditional irrigation (14/02/2011)

The town lost 23 hectometres of water transfer from the Tagus, becoming dependent on the desalination plant.

The price per cubic meter of desalinated water shoots from 40 cents to a low of 60, an unaffordable amount for agriculture (on today's price per m3 is 17).

Environment Councilman of the City of Lorca, Melchor Morales, has reported that, contrary to the assertions of some, the water desalination Eagles ascribed to the traditional irrigation Lorca, and not consolidated.

The direct consequence of this decision (contained in the record CSR 27/2010 of the Segura River Basin) is that the irrigators of the municipality shall be sentenced to source of that desalination plant, and that 29 hm 3 of water transfer to which are entitled will be reduced to just 6, having to "go and die" to the desalination plant to cover the remaining 23.

Reducing the amount of water is imposed by the amendment that Zapatero made the National Hydrological Plan, which was reflected that the flow of the Tagus to the Segura would be replaced by water from desalination plants (Law 11/2005).

Morales has held that "official documents do not deceive, and expose the big lie that enclosed the subject, and the damage they will suffer the irrigators."

Melchor Morales informed about the price of desalinated water, away from the 30 or 40 cents per m3 to be expected, today reaches a minimum of 60.

Notably, the price per m3 of water transfer is now at 17.4.

In overall terms, the economic growth they mean for irrigators Lorca is 9.8 million per year.

The amounts to which they face Lorca irrigators are:

Water transfer rates (23 hm 3): 4 million €

Price desalinated water (23 hm 3): 13.8 million €

Pipeline to bring desalinated water (to pay for irrigation): 30 million €

The transfer of water rights of 29 hm3 pass within 6

Environment Councilman noted that besides the damage that will mean for irrigators this situation, the scenario could be worse, since the PSOE de Castilla La Mancha and to put on the table a bill requiring the to accelerate the replacement of the water transfer desalinated water.

Moreover, it also proposes to reduce the amount of water that is expected to save at the modernization of irrigation, so that the water transfer to the entitled Lorca could even fall below 6 hm3.
