The Ministry of Culture and Tourism, through the Directorate General of Tourism, has proposed the Castillo de Lorca for the European Awards for Tourism Excellence (EDEN) as representing the Region of Murcia.
The motto of today's announcement of the awards, 'Regeneration of physical space', fits in promoting cultural tourism and has nurtured the project of The Fortress of the Sun since its inception in 1998 until the present time, which accumulates more than 560,000 visitors.
Since 2007 he is developing the Product Plan to Promote Tourism Lorca, by which actions are taking place in the castle with an investment of more than one million euros from the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade the Ministry and City Hall.
EDEN Awards
The EDEN project is a commitment by the European Commission for promoting sustainable tourism models, through the competitiveness and sustainability of tourism in the countries of the Union.
Is articulated through annual national competitions between several candidates, in order to choose one of them as national excellence in tourism destination, a representative of each participating country.
These prizes were awarded for the first time in 2007, although Spain did not begin to participate until the next edition in 2008.
The award consists primarily in promoting the selected targets using video, Internet, publications and other activities funded by the Commission, in addition to the publicity associated with the ceremony.
