Initiating a pilot program to support pioneering family caregivers of dependent persons (11/03/2011)

This program will consist of several annual visits to the beneficiary by home care assistants, who will be responsible to educate and inform the caregiver in their own homes, and to evaluate the conditions in which life develops dependent, receive financial benefits for care in the family environment, in order to improve care and quality of life of the dependent person as next of kin.

The Director of the Office of the Autonomous Community Unit, Miguel Angel Miranda, and the Councillor for Social Policy of the Municipality of Lorca, Lali Ibarra, presented this morning a groundbreaking pilot program nationwide to monitor the support they are receiving dependent recipients of financial assistance for care in the family.

The project is to enhance the monitoring provided by law to verify that the conditions of existence and habitability of housing are still appropriate, in order to improve them.

While it will provide functions and tasks that improve the quality of care and quality of life of dependent family members, such as training and information specific to the caregiver in their own homes directly related to the situation specifically dependent it serves.

Similarly, the objective is that both the employees and their caregivers have in these people a new way of consulting issues or concerns raised by carers and referral in cases that their characteristics so require.

To this end, the City of Lorca have a team of home help assistants whose duties consist of monitoring, information, training, support and reinforcement Personal, Consulting, Collaboration and Control of Quality Care.

Some functions will begin to be made with at least 2 visits a year, but the goal is to expand on the result of the program.

The Auxiliary made notarized report of the visits and the area social worker, is ultimately responsible, analyze and visit where housing, making the relevant report when conditions have changed.

1,005 beneficiaries of this financial aid will be the users of this new service, which will cost € 35,245.35 the first year and will be financed by an agreement between the Regional Government and the city of Lorca.

Ibarra said "this new project is a demonstration that both the Municipal Government to the Regional social policies are our priority and we are willing to make an effort to improve the quality of life for our citizens."
