The Government gives the nod to the emergency works to the Ministry of Culture held in the Tower of the Ram and the castle of Lorca (16/07/2011)

The Government delegate, Rafael González Tovar, announced today that at its meeting this week, the Cabinet has approved an agreement which takes account of emergency work that the Ministry of Culture held in the Tower Spur and the castle of Lorca (Murcia) for an amount of 1,087,199.87 euros.

The earthquake of last May, the building were damaged severely threaten their stability and became a risk factor for the citizens.

The assembly formed by Walls and Castle, which shall belong to the municipality of Lorca, was declared a in 1931.

Other actions in equity

Tovar Gonzalez recalled that the monuments of Lorca is subject to further actions by the Government of Spain, as recently approved by the Cultural Commission of 1% and will make the Ministry of Public Works:

Consolidation works of the Palace of Guevara (937,392 euros).

Wall Restoration Phase -1 (EUR 64 622 488).

Porch Restoration of San Antonio ('73 124 840 euros).

The same ministry has started a few days ago the emergency works in the church of San Mateo (979 000 euros), fully financed by the Ministry of Housing.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Culture, as well as emergency actions in the Tower of Ram and the walls of the castle, facing the restoration of parts of the Archaeological Museum (66,000 euros) and is developing the Recovery Plan for Cultural Heritage Lorca, in order to coordinate interventions to develop in the coming years.

As is known, the Castle area will be also an investment of 5 million to repair damage to the Parador is being built on it.
