The Government is considering with the Region of Murcia and Lorca City Council a new aid package to mitigate the effects of earthquake (26/10/2011)

The Minister of the Presidency, together with the Commissioner of Government actions under Lorca earthquake, the government delegate in Murcia and other senior government officials met this afternoon with the President of the Region of Murcia, Ramón Luis Valcárcel , and the Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, to study new measures to revive the town

The Ministries of Development, Culture and Industry, Tourism and Trade have launched various measures to recover the historical heritage of the town of Murcia

The new aid package includes measures on housing, infrastructure, support business and industry, restoration of historical and cultural heritage, support to citizens in their efforts or fiscal measures, among others.

The Minister of the Presidency, Ramon Jauregui, together with the Government Commissioner for the actions derived Lorca earthquake, Jesus Miranda Hita, met this afternoon with the President of the Region of Murcia, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, and the Mayor Lorca, Francisco Jodar, to analyze the measures put in place following the earthquake and consider further measures to mitigate earthquake damage and revive the town.

At the meeting, which was also attended by the Secretary of State for Regional Cooperation, Gaspar Zarrías, the Government Delegate in Murcia, Rafael González Tovar, the Secretary of Interior, Pilar Gallego, the Minister of Economy and Finance of the Government of Murcia, Salvador Marin, Minister of Universities, business and research, José Ballesta, and the Councillor of Management and Earthquake Recovery, Saturnino Martínez Pérez, has taken stock of the actions carried out by the various authorities so far.

These include the compensation of the Insurance Compensation Consortium, which has resolved 26,000 of the 29,000 claims had been filed.

Currently, the Government is currently processing 20 million euro for emergency expenses, demolition, cleaning and clearing, which would add to the 3 million already received by the city of Lorca.

The Ministry of Finance has already transferred to the Region of Murcia payments to 207 aid cases for the repair of the houses affected by the earthquake, of which the State Administration assumes 50% of the amount, by a total of 440,000 euros.

Other 367 records have been approved by the Council of Ministers, while the remaining 1,075 of the 1,649 applications submitted and approved so far in the Joint Committee be approved in a few dates.

In regard to cultural heritage concerned, there are three ministries working to recover.

The Development Ministry is acting in the Palacio de Guevara, the Wall of Lorca, the Porche de San Antonio and the church of St. Matthew, while the culture is taking care of the emergency works at the Castle of the town.

For its part, the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade for 5 million euros for emergency works at the Parador de Turismo.

The Ministry of Development, through the State Agency of Land, SEPES, plans to construct 300 modular housing for persons who have lost their homes by the earthquake.

At today's meeting have been studied new initiatives to accelerate the recovery work of the town of Lorca and the thousands of affected local residents.

These new measures in housing, infrastructure, support business and industry, recovery of cultural heritage, support citizens in their dealings, or on tax matters will be another boost from the Government in the rehabilitation and repair of the town of Lorca .

The Government is once again apparent with these new initiatives, the Executive's interest to resolve as quickly as possible the problems encountered by the earthquake.
