The proposal for the recovery of the church of San Pedro, the main protagonist in the V Summit of Regions and Cities of Europe (26/12/2011)

The meeting will be held on 22 and March 23, highlighting the exhibition "Colourful cities", within which highlights the plan for this property Lorca heritage

Councilwoman Lorca City Council Heritage, Sandra Martinez, has reported that our city will have special importance in the "V Summit of Regions and Cities" to be held on 22 and March 23 in Copenhagen.

In this regard, and as good practice for the recovery of the town of Lorca, have chosen the "Proposal for Architectural Intervention in the Church of San Pedro and its connection to the historic center in the city of Lorca" by the architect Jose Manuel Chacon, and located in the upper districts of the city.

Fixed the condition that the factory bell tower caused the earthquake, with an emergency operation of tying and stitching of the stones, the proposed intervention now raises two main objectives: the restoration of the nave of the church , which even before the earthquake suffered an advanced state of decay and neglect, and the enhancement of the surroundings, trying to connect this action with the historic downtown across multiple labyrinthine alleys. "

Martinez Navarro explained that the architectural design recovers the lost space using lightweight materials that levitate over the ruin and again draw the edges of the vaults and arches that once were made of stone.

This is a conceptual retrieval, away from the historical wrong, allowing us to discern the real from the imaginary.

On the other hand, enhances and smooths abstract building an unfriendly environment, while the action leads to the regeneration of the urban fabric of the neighborhood of San Pedro and its approaches.

The platform on which stands the church is a magnificent viewpoint, allowing us to enjoy the best views of a reborn Lorca.

This plan will be presented in the exhibition 'Colourful Cities "as one of the initiatives that are emerging and developing in our city for the recovery of the normal pace of life in the city after the earthquake last May 11.
