Start Stop stallions in equine artificial insemination center of Lorca. (18/03/2012)

The Director General of Agro-Food Industry and Agricultural Training, Ángel García Lidón, opened this week stallions stop taking place in the equine artificial insemination center, located on the premises of the Center for Integrated Agricultural Training and Experience (CIFEA) of Lorca.

As the main new feature this year will freeze the semen of horses belonging to herds emblematic of the region.

Lidón Garcia stressed that the center "develops training programs and research.

It is also approved by the European Community for the handling, mining, cooling, freezing and shipping of genetic material from the equine species throughout the world. "

Stopping horse feeds typically assigned by the Ministry of Defence, belonging to the deposit of stallions Ecija in Seville.

These include 'Herrante', who won the contest held in Torre Pacheco last year, and 'Gentoo' flagship stallion in Lorca, which features more than 200 children throughout the region.

This year also involved stallion farms in the region, such as studs Carthage (Cartagena), Victor Jimenez and Peña de Bejar (Lorca), for the extraction of semen under the agreement signed between the Ministry and the Association of Horse Breeders of the Region.

In 2011 about 250 mares were inseminated.

The fertility rate obtained in recent years exceeded 80 percent.

The center provides technical support and personnel required for handling and extraction of semen and subsequent shipment.

The regional equine industry has a total of 1,759 farms, 11 racetracks and 11,000 head of cattle, of which approximately 50 percent are purebred.

The most dynamic regions are those of the High Guadalentín, Cartagena and Murcia-Mar Menor.

The upward trend in the region in this sector over the last decade is due, among other things, the use of these animals in sports, hippotherapy and rural tourism and leisure.
