The example project of the church of San Pedro

The European Union has chosen for this summit the existing intervention project for the recovery of the church of San Pedro, which is presented in Copenhagen in the exhibition "Colourful Cities" as one of the initiatives that are emerging and developing in our city recovery of the normal rhythm of life in the town, after the earthquake last May 11.

The Church of San Pedro is one of the three small (in this case, with an area of 400 m2) churches nestled in the districts of Lorca, this space has a medieval structure with Gothic decoration subsequent interventions, as a result of War Civil and recently lost the cover, the earthquake has caused, inter alia, damages in a single tower of 19.50 meters.

Their use, in recent times has been very varied and always away from that for which it was built.

Even sometimes been used as a warehouse or barn.

This action reflects well the lines of "Beautiful City", as an example of good practice in intervention architectural and urban areas, improving the landscape aspects and facilitating social recovery of the area.

Stresses in this regard, its innovative architectural intervention, since it is a conceptual space recovery primitive covers.

Within the proposal also includes treatment of the environment, particularly interesting because it was an isolated piece in the urban fabric.

This is a neighborhood, to promote, which acts on a monumental element.

The intervention, facilitate recovery and improvement of surrounding urban space, creating opportunities for our relationship to enhance the social life of the neighborhood and creating economic potential.

The church is part of one of the most characteristic of Lorca, the high district of San Pedro.
