Caritas, hope for the families of Lorca (13/07/2012)

One year and two months after the earthquakes in Lorca, Caritas has become a beacon of hope for Lorca.

Thousands of Spanish and foreign families continue to benefit the charity of the people working and dedicated volunteers who generously of their time to help the needy.

In this context the project is Kilicala of Caritas and the Mamre project, the latter specifically created to assist families affected financially as a result of earthquakes.

The bishop visited yesterday the Treasurer Mamre

Bishop Lorca Planes, during a visit yesterday to the city of Lorca, the afternoon was the Commissary Mamre, where both the Director of Caritas of Lorca, as a group of volunteers, they explained how it was working in recent months that project and the care to families in the Kilicala.

The bishop told them his joy at seeing both projects were being managed, even in the midst of pain is to see so many needs Lorca.

26,140 people have benefited from Project earthquakes Kilicala

Much of the neediest families are benefiting Lorca at the moment of project aid Kilicala, born expressly to distribute free food to people who could not cope with their economic situation.

According to recent data from Caritas, from the catastrophe caused by the earthquake last May 11, 2011, until July 9, 2012, this organization has served through the project Kilicala to 7134 families.

5,372 of these families have been derived by the City and 1,762 of them, by Caritas.

A 65, 20% of the beneficiary families are Spanish (4651).

The percentage of foreign families reaches 34, 80% (2,483).

In this way, have found a total of 26,140 people.

Among them, 21,527 adults, 3,554 children ages 2 to 9 years and 1,059 of 0 to 2 years.

These figures may not be as high if not for the commendable work of the volunteers (8 each day) working on efforts to collaborate with these people with financial difficulties.

According to statistics, since 5 May last year until July 9 this year, the total is 28,800 hours invested.

From June 2011 until June this year, 20 trucks have unloaded the goods necessary to carry out this task, which reportedly collected a total of 500.000Kg.

The Bursar Mamre serves 250 families since May 2011

In turn, the Commissary "Mamre" continues to serve families most affected by earthquakes.

This project created at the initiative of the Bishop of the Diocese of Cartagena, Bishop D.

Jose Manuel Lorca Planes, nonprofit and run by Caritas, opened its doors on January 11 and since then, still open to the charity of many people.

From the Diocese of Cartagena, was created a commission to the Equitable Distribution of Aids Solidarity (DEAS), in which it was agreed that those affected would pay 30% of PVP, and 70% would cover the Commissary.

Thanks to the generosity of organizations, especially church (Spanish dioceses, religious congregations ...), and individuals, this project is to be of great help to many since it opened its doors.

To date, a total of 250 families have been served since the Bursar.

Of these, 229 are Spanish, 18 in Ecuador, two Moroccans and a Romanian.

According to data collected from the Treasurer, are 3,260 people that have helped: 3,132 adults, 38 children younger than 2 years and 90 children from 2 to 9 years.

The total expenditure on food Treasurer until now reaches the amount of 117,269.83 euros.

However, the contribution they have made the families during this period is limited to 38,890 euros.

The difficulty of Caritas in Lorca

While Caritas continues its efforts to provide possible assistance to more people, is currently an obstacle.

Facilities, rented, where the project is Kilicala are in precarious conditions, and this hinders their work.

Despite collaboration requested some institutions, the response has been positive.

However, this organization will remain open this summer.

Aid through Kilicala project may be requested through Caritas, in the neighborhood of Los Angeles.

For its part, the Commissary will open Mamre nine to noon during the months of July-August, in Fuente Alamo Street Crossing, in the neighborhood of San Diego.
