The owners of 43,973 homes damaged by earthquakes not pay property tax this year (21/08/2012)

The City has received 12.6 million euros that the Government of Spain transferred to the municipality as compensation for the exemption from property tax this year.

Economy Councilman City of Lorca, Luis Amador, has reported that the city council has received EUR 12.6 million from the Government of Spain who come to town under the application of the exemption from payment of IBI for this year.

Luis Amador explained that after inclusion of the new Central Government in the Royal Decree of 30 March 2012 the exemption from payment of IBI to those affected by the earthquakes that met the requirements applied in 2011, the City Council passed a motion Local Government Board which provided exemption from payment of Property Tax (IBI), known as contribution to a total of 43,973 properties, which are located mostly in the urban area.

A request has been accepted by the Government of Spain as a whole.

Amador said that these properties represent a total fee revenue for 2012 of EUR 12,462,244.68.

In percentage terms, we're talking around 50% of all receipts from this tax in the municipality, which represent about 70% of the revenue that the City obtained by this concept.

Since the city council requested compensation of this amount to the National Government (through the Directorate General of Territorial Haciendas Coordination with the Ministry of Economy and Finance).

Luis Amador indicated that damage to an area affected more than 32.7 million m2.

This is stated in a report of service planning and urban management, which also notes that reviewed more than 6,300 buildings damaged by earthquakes and a large number of houses.

Exemption workplaces, homes and industrial establishments.

43,892 of these properties are located in the area known as top condition and 81 outside.
