Caritas entities of the Region of Murcia, CEPAIM, Caritas Interparroquial of Lorca and Lorca Red Cross will work with the project (12/09/2012)

Both institutions to deploy CaixaProinfancia coordinate the care program for children in situations of poverty and exclusion driven by the financial institution that focuses on attention to households with children aged 0 to 16 years in vulnerable situations.

In a first phase, the project will reach 330 children, which translates into an investment of 800,000 euros by the Obra Social "la Caixa" for the school year 2012-2013.

The agreement is part of the various initiatives undertaken by the Obra Social "la Caixa" after the earthquake in May 2011.

Under way for five years, only in 2011 the program served CaixaProinfancia over 50,000 children in the main Spanish cities with an investment of 42 million euros from the bank.

The mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, and the CEO of the Fundación "la Caixa", Jaime Lanaspa, today signed an agreement to care for children in vulnerable situations lorquina through CaixaProinfancia, the home care program with children aged 0 to 16 years at risk of exclusion or situation.

The project will be coordinated by Caritas and CEPAIM, entities that already perform this function in the city of Murcia, and will also have the support of Caritas Interparroquial of Lorca and Lorca Red Cross.

The initiative is expected to reach 330 children during the 2012-2013 school year, which translates into an investment of 800,000 euros from the bank during this period.

The agreement between the Obra Social "la Caixa" and the city of Lorca states that both institutions jointly identify and analyze the spatial distribution of the vulnerabilities and risks of social exclusion affecting children and families requiring Lorca and beyond of attention to specific needs, a holistic approach that affects performance comprehensively in transforming and improving the reality of childhood and family.

Both institutions also undertake to define together a portfolio of services that can respond to the needs of households served and optimize public and private financial resources for these families.

From here we have identified the following priority action neighborhoods: The Vineyard, San Fernando, San Pedro, Santa Maria, San Juan, San Lazaro and gully of Calvary and the top of the San Cristobal district (Old Calvary, Cabezo Piñero and Cabezo Casas Blancas), across the river Guadalentín.

This has been followed mainly two criteria: the number of vulnerable people and their situation after the earthquake.

Working with all household members

CaixaProinfancia seeks to break the line of transmission from parent to child poverty and promote the full potential and capabilities of children, trying to ensure that, despite the difficulties, have an open door to a better future and enjoy the same opportunities as others.

This leads to the development of a work plan with the entire family.

It is a comprehensive approach to child poverty, focusing on the daily work with all members of the family unit.

The program is developed, since 2007, in the main Spanish cities and their metropolitan areas: Barcelona, ​​Bilbao, Madrid, Seville, Malaga, Murcia, Valencia, Zaragoza, Palma de Mallorca, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

One of the key objectives is to ensure CaixaProinfancia promotion of socio children, understanding that this depends to a large extent, their future welfare.

This is expressed in the development of five major lines: strengthening education, non-formal education and leisure, family educational support, psychosocial therapy and care and health promotion.

The Obra Social "la Caixa" also works to help improve family income and provide access to basic goods (food, hygiene products, school equipment, glasses and audiófonos).

Only in 2011, the program served 58,596 children and their families in the main Spanish cities with an investment of 42 million euros from the bank.

Fabric alliances with social organizations Lorca

CaixaProinfancia arises as a comprehensive project of transformation and improvement which subsumes various social actors, institutions and governments of each territory.

The Obra Social "la Caixa" is the driving force behind the program, while four social entities in permanent coordination with municipal social services, is in charge of implementing CaixaProinfancia Lorca: Caritas in the Region of Murcia and CEPAIM, acting as coordinators and Caritas Interparroquial of Lorca and Lorca Red Cross.

Since the municipal social services alongside these organizations are the ones who know the specific needs of each area, the program is responsible for completing the action carried out in favor of social inclusion of families with children, and contribute to deepen the entity in its most genuine social action: the daily work to ensure that, as part of an inclusive process, families at risk of social exclusion enjoy a more normal life as possible.

The program proposes a model of social action, so that the various organizations, and social services to government, are responsible for identifying children and families qualifying for assistance, as well as globally assess the child's needs .

A commitment to the citizens of Lorca

The agreement signed today is part of the various initiatives that the Obra Social "la Caixa" is developing in the area with the aim of contributing to the recovery, with particular emphasis on children in vulnerable situations.

After the earthquake, moved the forward command post and emergency care center, while the team of corporate volunteers from "la Caixa" Lorca moved to a truck with 1,300 kilos of food.

In addition, the bank has promoted an educational kit for the recovery of children affected by the earthquake and has made available its Lorca Affordable Housing program.

In the same vein, the Obra Social "la Caixa" allocated 350,000 euros to the recovery of Lorca Theatre of War.

In addition there are contributions by the Spanish Confederation of Savings Banks (CECA): the donation of 495,000 euros for the restoration of municipally owned schools of Lorca and the contribution of 30,000 euros a benefit concert June 16 2011 at the Old Stadium Condomina of Murcia.

The collaboration between the Obra Social "la Caixa" and the city of Lorca dates back to 1996 and includes exhibitions, project aid different social organizations and different initiatives in education.
