Two agents of the National Police fail to save a person who was choking (08/10/2012)

By applying the technique known as the Heimlich maneuver succeeded unblock the airway and save the life of the affected

On the sixth day of October, about 13.00 hours, was received in Room 091, the Commissioner of the National Police of Lorca an emergency alert about a possible choking episode occurred in the bowls club Park San Diego de Lorca.

According to the caller, a neighbor of the city of 70 years old was choking after eating food that had been stuck in the airway.

Through an endowment established procedures police was immediately sent to the scene, where they found a person was unconscious and sitting in a chair, while being held by other people.

This person was breathing with difficulty and his face bruised, showing obvious symptoms of airway obstruction.

Given the obvious danger of suffering life this person, who had spent several minutes in that state, and the urgent need for intervention, applied agents known as the Heimlich maneuver, and through this abdominal compression technique got unclog the airways, regaining consciousness affected and normal breathing rate.

Subsequently placed victim in the recovery position until medical assistance arrived he proceeded to his transfer to the Hospital Rafael Méndez.

Officials of the National Police receive training in first aid in order to provide better service to citizens.

This training has been shown in this and other cases to be of paramount importance in cases where police endowments are in situations like this.
