The President of the Diabetic Association of Lorca (ADILOR), Isidro Santiago, and the councilors of Health and the Mayor of the City of Lorca, Antonia Lopez and Mari Carmen Ruiz, presented this morning that the project has started for this group raise awareness of the importance of diabetes prevention.

Lopez explained that "this group has organized, in collaboration with La Caixa and the city of Lorca, 30 lectures in groups of women, elderly and NGOs to inform Lorca in time to prevent this disease."

Antonia Lopez stated that "in order to raise awareness of the need for changes in lifestyle to prevent or delay the onset of Type 2 diabetes has designed the project, which is to provide information on what are the risk factors and what action to take in the lifestyle to prevent or at least delay the onset of Type 2 diabetes.

Ruiz has stated that this awareness is done through lectures conducted by a diabetes educator, to give information and make attendees Findrisk Test.

This test is a proven tool in different European countries for noninvasive screening of the population at risk of diabetes, consists of eight simple questions with predetermined scores and estimates the probability of developing type 2 diabetes in the next 10 years.

Glycemic tests will also be conducted to attendees as it is estimated that about 50% of people with diabetes to be unknown (occult diabetes.) As a reminder are given a triptych fundamental points seen in the lecture and in which note the test score with recommendations and the glycemic index.

The first two talks have already been held in the social center level crossing and Social Center Purias; being planned another on November 5, in the Neighborhood Association of Tejares gully, Nov. 6, at the Community Center Los Angeles on November 7 in the Social Center of Cazalla, 8 Nocviembre Social Center of the vineyard on 13 November in the Neighborhood Association of San Jose, and on November 15 in the Social Center of Neighborhood Apolonia ".
