More than 2,000 young people have participated in Lorca on the day of the Sakharov Prize Broadcast (18/12/2012)

The 'Field of Hope' and 'Tree of Liberty' were some of the activities that have a larger share

Some 2,000 young people in all schools in Lorca participated in the day's broadcast of 'Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought 2012', which each year gives the European Parliament to individuals or organizations who struggle to defend human rights and fundamental freedoms .

This conference was organized by the European Parliament in collaboration with the Community and the City of Lorca.

Thus, students from 30 schools in the city of 8 to 10 years performed a 'Field of Hope' through some flowers in which they could express his personal view on human rights, jobs that were exposed all day in the Plaza de Calderón and were visited by the various colleges.

Older students, from five institutes of the city, worked on the winners in previous years, resulting in a 'tree of liberty' which collected the work of young people, also exposed in the same square .

Furthermore, citizens of Lorca, in collaboration with students from the School of Visual Arts, participated in the creation of a large mural of expression of nine meters long on the winners in this edition: two Iranian activists, the lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh and film director Jafar Panahi.

In the afternoon, about 200 people attended the debate on freedom of conscience and expression, which was presented by the director of the European Parliament in Spain, Ignacio Samper, and the mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, with the participation of MEP Cristina Gutiérrez Cortines.
