Lorca hosts a conference next Friday on the nuclear accident at Chernobyl (17/04/2013)

It is an activity organized by the Association of Family Solidarity with Belarusian People and the city of Lorca.

On 26th there will be a ceremony of remembrance for the victims of the explosion upon completion of the XXVII anniversary of the disaster.

The Councillor for Development Cooperation of the City of Lorca, Antonio Lopez, and the President of the Association of Family Solidarity with the People Belarusian, Fernando Square, its Treasurer, Pedro Javier Guevara, and the Secretary thereof, Rafael Andreu, reported that the Association of Family Solidarity with the People Belarusian will develop on Friday April 19 starting at 7 pm in the auditorium of the University Campus of our city a day entitled "Chernobyl, Memories and Consequences" that have as main objective the nuclear disaster that occurred in the Soviet Union not to be forgotten, especially in the aspect of helping people who were directly affected by the explosion and welcome children of that area.

The conference, which is included in the European Action Week called "For a future without Chernobyl or Fukushima" will feature presentations by Natalia Filomenko Tereschencko and Zhanna first person who suffered the consequences of radioactive disaster.

This activity is supported and recognized by the European Parliament and included in the Business Plan of the European Chernobyl Network.

To get an idea of ​​the consequences of this disaster should be noted that the amount of radioactive material released was about 500 times greater than the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima in 1945, directly causing the death of 31 people and forced the Union government Soviet evacuation of 116 000 people causing international alarm radioactivity detected in at least 13 countries of Central and Eastern Europe.

After the accident, started a massive process of decontamination, containment and mitigation which played approximately 600,000 people called liquidators, as in the case of the speakers that will be in Lorca on Friday.

These people worked in the areas surrounding the site of the accident, which was isolated an area of ​​30 km radius around the nuclear plant known as Zone of alienation, which is still in force.

The work on the reactor containment avoided a second explosion hit that could have left Europe uninhabitable.

We're talking about conferences testimonial made by people who lived through the Chernobyl nuclear accident directly, either as resident population evacuated, either as a direct participant in the work of reducing the consequences.

These testimonies, are for the general population, and especially to young people.

All this is aimed to highlight three aspects:

1. - Open new future perspectives and information on nuclear power.

Two. - Revalue and claim the job of the witnesses who will talk about their experiences trying to give a true and first hand I can do to understand the scope and horror of this disaster.

Three. - Remembering and endure in memory of victims of both disasters.

Families Association Solidarity with Belarus was formed with the aim of helping to alleviate the disastrous consequences caused by radioactivity on the Belarusian population and particularly on children suffering from the consequences of the nuclear accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in the Republic of Ukraine on April 26, 1986.

For several years, have been developing a childcare program by Lorca family, within which this year is expected to benefit about 80 children.

Recall that the Chernobyl nuclear disaster had serious ecological and socioeconomic consequences which continue to harm the health of the people of Belarus.

Braguin adjoining districts, Khoynilki and Narobia in Gomel region bordering the territory of the Chernobyl nuclear plant in Ukraine and have the highest radioactive contamination of Belarus.

This month marks the 27th anniversary of the explosion of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, made by the Association of Family Solidarity with the People Belarusian held on April 25 (eve of the anniversary of the disaster) afternoon an act with lit candles in memory of victims to be held in the Plaza of Spain at 9 pm.
