Agriculture highlights the importance of equine sector in the region organized by two of the ten international competitions held in Spain (11/10/2013)

The Director General of Livestock and Fisheries, Carmen Teodora Morales highlighted "the importance and dynamism of the regional equine competitions morphological features three renowned annual nationwide".

Two of them, he added, "this year have reached the international category, making the hostel Region two of the ten contests authorized this category", in reference to 'Fericab' and 'Equimur'.

Morales made the remarks during the presentation today in Murcia's commemoration of the XXV Anniversary of the regional Association of Spanish Pure Breed horses, accompanied by the President of the Association of Horse Breeders Region Pure Breeds, Juan José Belando, and Deputy Director and Head Stud Book Improvement Program PRE, Peter J.

The director gave a brief overview of the history of this regional partnership was born 25 years ago with 15 producers "and today already has 160 associates."

He explained that currently are registered in the Registry of Cattle 1,832 total housing facilities for horses with a total census of about 10,000 head, of which over 50 percent are purebreds, base Purebred Spanish.

In terms of geographical distribution, in the municipality of Lorca is 21 percent of farms.

Next in importance are the municipalities of Murcia, Cartagena, Puerto Lumbreras, Caravaca de la Cruz and Torre Pacheco, binding between them 66 percent of the regional census.

Collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Water

The head of Livestock and Fisheries said that the Ministry of Agriculture and Water "has always supported this sector either through direct payments or by signing agreements with the Association of Breeders of Pure Race Horses of the Region of Murcia ".

One of the most notable is the agreement to be signed since 2008 to encourage the development of training activities, research and technology transfer for breeding horses hut in the Region of Murcia, on the premises of Lorca CIFE (Murcia).
