The Civil Guard dismantled a criminal group that posed as installers steal supplies for homes (17/10/2013)

So far three offenses have been clarified, but the operation is still open

The Guardia Civil of the Region of Murcia, in the framework of the 'Plan against burglary' has developed, in collaboration with the local police in Lorca, the operation 'MASLUZ' which culminated with the arrest of three members of a criminal group dedicated to commit theft in homes posing as installers companies last resort.

So far three have been clarified crimes committed in the hamlet Lorca Ramonete, although it is his responsibility in other crimes, and was a touring band with mobility by the Region and neighboring provinces.

Meritorious agents and local police began the investigation after detecting committing several burglaries in which the authors posed as installers or inspectors of gas companies and energy supplies in order to gain the trust of victims, access to the homes to move smoothly and without problems in the property to steal cash, jewelry and other valuable effects.

Modus operandi

The criminal group consisted dismantled three youths who selected victims living in rural and elderly, some of them even with reduced mobility, luring pretending to belong to utility companies who performed inspections to carry out its purpose: removal of all kinds of effects of home values.

With the excuse to check the installation of electricity had access to all rooms of the house and took advantage of the carelessness of the owners to gain money and jewelry mostly, registering property cupboards and drawers.

At other times posing as gas installers.

In some of the acts committed by the group, the owners tried to thwart the robbery, but the authors ignored the requirements of the victims to leave the house, so they are also credited with the authorship of the crime alleged burglary.

Once identified, the group established a search that has culminated in recent days with the location and arrest of three members of the group, as alleged perpetrators of theft and burglary.

The analysis of the information obtained during the investigation has revealed that the arrested now composed a criminal group based in Lorca and acted both in the region and in neighboring provinces.

So far have been clarified three counts of theft and burglary, although the investigation remains open and it is possible involvement in other crimes arrested.

Detained

In operation, the agents have arrested three members of the band, as alleged perpetrators of theft and burglary, which respond to the identity of:

- Spanish, 34 years and resident of Lorca.

- Spanish, 32 years and resident of Lorca.

- Spanish, 23 years and resident of Lorca

Those arrested have a criminal record for committing similar crimes.

Detainees and the proceedings have been brought before the Magistrate's Court in Lorca (Murcia).

Avoiding this kind of theft and scams

Do not open or allow to enter into your home to strangers.

Verify your identity by calling official company they claim to work, never to try to facilitate them, could have an accomplice on the other side of the line.

Do not believe everything they say, especially if they try to impress them with suits, briefcases or official documents.

If your personal situation need to do any paperwork with handing over money or sign documents, do it when you present a trustworthy person.

Scammers personan at the home of the victim wearing overalls and posing as workers installation company supplies such as gas, electricity or other service and come to conduct a review of the installation.

They appear to make several technical papers, normally limited to change a piece of gas hose or other minor work.

Finished work on extending a bill they charge for services not performed.
