A special sample where you can see 83 pieces that were damaged by the earthquakes which have been restored, open the doors of the Archaeological Museum (08/05/2014)

The Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar by the Deputy Director General of Museums of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, Enrique Varela, and the Councillor for Culture, Sandra Martinez, this morning visited the exhibition "Restored Treasures" located in the Archaeological Museum.

This exhibition aims to inform visitors Lorca and the work done to rehabilitate both units as museum pieces that were damaged as a result of the earthquake of May 11.

The mayor explained that by "Restored Treasures" can understand the actions in order to recover our Museum that is, the value of the pieces it houses one of the most important national archeology.

The idea of ​​organizing this temporary exhibition arose during the celebration of Heritage Days at risk.

Museums and earthquakes, organized by the Ministry of Culture in November 2011. Now reality in the Temporary Exhibitions Museum across the sample of 83 pieces selected by the Technical Museum.

For the occasion they have chosen those most significant of those affected by the earthquake, they were made in different materials parts, had been restored in collaboration with the Institute of Cultural Heritage Spanish and to represent all the cultures that left their mark on the town.

The pieces, which have been grouped chronologically in 6 thematic areas are as significant as the barrel of the thirteenth century with his reposadero, 4 glass lamps found in the XV century synagogue and a sculpture of the god Mercury in the second century found Coy.

Also of note are the museological elements that are released in this sample.

And is that the different parts are shown in seven new cabinets designed with shear criteria.

These cabinets were made after significant testing and previous studies and represent a guarantee of security for the artifacts before an earthquake.

"Restored Treasures" features texts in Spanish and English to explain each item in accordance with the Plan for Quality, where images illustrating the work of restoration and conservation developed are also included.

There will also be an audiovisual cultural heritage damaged in Lorca, as well as digital frames with additional information and an area with teaching resources.

The exhibition has been funded with the assistance of Ibermuseos Program, which allocated 60,000 euros to Lorca after the earthquake in order to recover some of Lorca museological heritage.

We're talking about a major exhibition that will back in the Archaeological Museum and seeing the great work that has been done to restore and ensure permanence in the future of all the major archaeological pieces that make up the cultural and historical heritage of this city of Lorca.
