690 people participated in the second edition of Lorca Geolodía (19/05/2014)

Although about 490 attendees were from Lorca, there were nearly fifty from Murcia, while the rest came from Totana, Aguilas, Cartagena, Puerto Lumbreras, Bullas, Jumilla, Mazarrón and Alhama de Murcia.

Emergency Councillor of the City of Lorca, Eduardo Sanchez, expressed his satisfaction at the success that has returned to the holding in Loca on 11 May Geolodía of Murcia for the second time.

The Geology is jointly organized by the council, with the Geological Society of Spain and the Association for the Teaching of Earth Sciences (AEPECT) activity, which has become a holiday disclosure of Geology in the the geological community that aims to bring this science to the public.

Note that for this occasion was chosen for a tour around the castle of Lorca.

Thus, over a distance of about 2.5 km., 7 stops in different specialties that geologists conducted informative explanations to inform the geological processes that have led to the land on which it is now established we settled .

The total length of the route, including explanations, will be approximately 3 hours and will target all audiences and all ages.

Attendees could observe Geolodía 2014 Lorca failure which caused the earthquakes of May 11 and understand the tectonic context in which our region is, learn to interpret the terrain surrounding Lorca and discover how Serrata saw shows the desiccation of the Mediterranean Sea 6 million years ago.

The purpose is to spread knowledge about the geological history of the city and its surroundings, where there are rocks over 200 million years and more recent that have conditioned the customs and usages that the locals have given the ground throughout the history of our city.
