The meeting "Senior Athletes" meets in Hall of Malls elder (28/05/2014)

It is an activity sponsored by La Caixa in which, by participating in a series of games and tests, seeks to promote coexistence between the group of elderly in the municipality.

The Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar by the managing director of the Instituto Murciano Social Action (IMAS), Leopoldo Navarro Councilwoman Policy Mayor of the City of Lorca, Maria del Carmen Ruiz, and the Director of the business area Caixa in our city, José María Martínez, inaugurated this morning the leisure and sports event called "Senior Athletes", in which 60 elderly residents or users of Caser, Domingo and San Diego Sastre residences and associations involved Alzheimer, Parkinson, plus Center Poncemar Day Foundation.

The Mayor stressed that older Lorca exemplify participation.

Francisco Jodar has also indicated that this activity, which debuts in our town, created with the aim of continuing to spread among our elders the benefits of physical activity and sport.

Today also you will enjoy sensory and cognitive activities, as part of the programming that brings us together.

We want the activity "Senior Athletes" does not exclude but, just the opposite, encompassing all stakeholders and allow them to continue participating and demonstrating why older Lorca are an example to follow.

The important thing is to enjoy the day, live, participate in various games and enhance the sensory, physical, cognitive and team development.

"Senior Athletes" provides evidence of all time, very different, but characterized by fun, that's what it is.

All with the goal of healthy contribute to the maintenance of the physical and functional status of the elderly.

The objective of this initiative is to demonstrate that older Lorca are active and which is much what you bring to the whole society, which is now enjoying these fun tests and by living with other people.

Its main objectives are to facilitate the inter-center relationship as a way to share experience, create quality of life, wellbeing and personal satisfaction of our elders maintain inclusive spaces for older dependents, as well as facilitate communication and personal interaction with new people outside its center by expanding their social peer relationships.

Different games and activities will be physical, sensory, cognitive and computer.

This activity is part of the socio-cultural program of the Department of Social Policy Staff, with which we intend to develop projects and activities such as this, in which players are our greatest assets, and one of the key objectives on which working by this Department is to provide our major projects in which they develop an active, direct participation, responding to a social reality, as the group of older people should not be viewed only as a passive recipient of the action of the authorities, but as active sector have much to contribute, fleeing archaic stereotypes associated with their passivity and emphasis on functional dependency, rather than their potential.
