The Community will invest more than 4.5 million in improving accessibility and urban renewal in the neighborhood of Alfonso X in Lorca (16/06/2014)

This action is part of a schedule for the full recovery of the neighborhoods most affected by earthquakes in Lorca, amounting to 52 million euros

The Minister of Development, Public Works and Planning, Manuel Campos, today laid the foundation stone of the works for urban renewal in the neighborhood of Alfonso X, in Lorca, where the regional government will invest 4.584 million euros, have a lead time of 13 months and will be developed on an area of ​​65,000 square meters.

Campos, accompanied by the mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar toured the main areas of the district in which the transformation of public space by the pedestrianization of the side streets, the renewal of urban infrastructure, the connection with the surrounding neighborhoods will be screened promoting accessibility, energy efficiency and sustainability and enhancement of the cultural and social values.

"This project is a milestone in the huge task of reconstruction of Lorca, which materially and morally on the rubble left by the earthquakes of 2011, in order to get at the end of this process, a city better than rises had before the earthquake, "said the counselor.

Renovation and connection to other neighborhoods

Also, we will proceed to the pedestrianization of all the side streets to the neighborhood and a rearrangement of traffic.

With all the activities planned in the neighborhood, connecting with other districts will be encouraged.

Thus, the possibility of use of the sports covered by the sports center in the San José will use the connection between these neighborhoods, while the pedestrianization of the Street Canovas Cabeño links to Xiquena Street Crossing, becoming a clear communication axis between neighborhoods, connecting the park with the Park Viña San Jose.

Similarly, the proposed boulevard next to the road and the bike path Granada continues the neighborhoods from the San Antonio to Pérez Casas Street.

Improved services

Similarly, the renewal of the drinking water, sanitation and stormwater network, improving the electrical, telephone and power lines and burying municipal waste containers spread in the neighborhood within the scope projects.

Energy efficiency and sustainability through the renewal of the lighting of public spaces in the neighborhood will also be encouraged (streets, squares, etc..) Using the LED system.
