City Council and Obra Social La Caixa, the "Caixa Proinfancia" program (31/07/2014)

Lorca is not the only provincial capital in this city action unfolds.

Since its inception in 2012 has invested the amount of 1.6 million euros, to which are added € 800,000 provided for the period 2014/2015.

The different lines of action framed in CaixaProinfancia program benefited a total of 978 children, which correspond to 619 families.

The Councillor for Social Services City of Lorca, María del Carmen Ruiz, reported that the city council has received confirmation from the Obra Social La Caixa that the program "Proinfancia Caixa" will continue in our town for a year more.

Jódar Ruiz expressed his deep gratitude to the Foundation for the special sensitivity that is proving to Lorca in recent years, ratified in extra time as beneficial to the city as this program.

Thus a new investment of 800,000 euros for the development of programs of care for vulnerable children is achieved.

The mayor of Social Services explained that since its inception in September 2012 has invested the amount of 1.6 million euros, which added € 800,000 planned for next period 2014/2015.

The different lines of action framed in CaixaProinfancia program benefited a total of 978 children, which correspond to 619 families.

Jódar Ruiz stated that the Obra Social "la Caixa" and the City of Lorca jointly identify and analyze the spatial distribution of social vulnerability situations affecting children and families requiring Lorca and beyond attention to specific needs , a comprehensive approach that affects performance holistically in processing and improving the reality of childhood and family.

The profile of the beneficiaries of this program matches families in Spanish jobless, with 2 or more children.

In fact 90% of children served under this action are Spanish.

Both institutions have defined a joint portfolio of services aimed at responding to the needs of households served and optimize public and private financial resources for these families.

According to the assessment made far greater performance neighborhoods are La Viña, San Fernando, San Pedro, Santa Maria, San Juan, San Lazaro and Ramblilla Calvary and the upper district of San Cristóbal (Old Calvary, Cabeza Piñero and Cabeza Casas Blancas).

To identify areas for action have mainly followed two criteria: the number of people at risk of exclusion and their situation after the earthquake.

The Councillor of Social Services has stressed that the main objective of this program is to break the transmission line vulnerabilities of children and encourage parents to the full potential and capabilities of children, trying to ensure that, despite the difficulties, have open to a better future and enjoy the same opportunities as other door.

This leads to the development of a work plan with the whole family.

It is a comprehensive approach to child poverty, focusing on the daily work with all members of the family unit.

From CaixaProinfancia program works to ensure the promotion of socio children, understanding that this depends to a large extent, their future welfare.

This is expressed in the development of five major lines:

Educational support.

Non-formal education and leisure (camps and summer schools).

Family support.

Psychosocial care.

Health Promotion.

Since the municipal social services are the most knowledgeable about the specific needs of each area, the program is responsible for completing the action that is carried out by the City Council in favor of social inclusion of families with children.

In this line of work, social services are Consistory who are responsible for identifying children and families eligible for aid and assess the child's needs globally.

The Councillor of Social Services recently reported to have developed two camps (in Mazarrón, with 60 children and 80 children with Espuña), 10 urban colonies (Colegio San Cristobal with 95 children) and a summer school (schools Juan Gonzalez and José Robles with 70 children) through this project.

Obra Social "la Caixa" also works to help improve family income and provide access to basic goods (food, hygiene products, school equipment, eyeglasses and hearing-aid).

Entities by the City Council and Obra Social "La Caixa" working on this program are Caritas, Red Cross and CEPAIM.
