Modernising electrical installations allows savings in 2013 of more than 4 billion euros in electric bill as well as a drop in excess of 8 million kilowatt consumption, thus fulfilling the targets set in their action plans Local Agenda 21 and the Covenant of Mayors.

Councilman Environment Council of Lorca, Melchor Morales, has reported that the town has been awarded the accolade of Best Practices in Energy by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces.

This is a distinction for the V Award for Best Commercial Practices for Climate highlighting specific actions related to the "Plan for Energy Saving and Efficiency. Joining the Covenant of Mayors and elaboration of the Action Plan for Sustainable Energy 2013-2020 ".

This award will be given to the Mayor of the city in the framework of the Conference on Opportunities of Climate Change for Local Governments, which will take place on November 6 in Madrid, an event that will be attended by the General Director of the Spanish Office for Climate Change, Suzanne Magro.

Melchor Morales has indicated that following the accession of the Manifesto Lorca Cities for Climate in 2008, and the effort from the implementation of Local Agenda 21, numerous actions taken by the Consistory Lorca in fighting climate change, and thus have been shown in the fourth and final report on local policies to Fight Climate Change, recently developed by the City Council.

These energy efficiency plans initiated in the town of Lorca after the year 2007, evolved into a Plan for Energy Saving and Efficiency forth in the Plan of Action of the Agenda 21.
