The Deputy Secretary General of the PSOE Lorca, Antonio Navarro has reported that, during the upcoming municipal elections in May 2015, "foreign citizens from non-EU countries such as Ecuador, Bolivia, Chile, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago, Cape Verde, Colombia and Paraguay who have resided legally for more than five years shall have the right to vote because of reciprocity agreements signed between their countries of origin and Spain.

"Some agreements, as happened in 2011 thanks to the Socialist governments in the country, will allow local governments to integrate population and account for every single citizen to conform with legal residence, set today's society, "said the Deputy Secretary General.

In this sense, the social responsibility emphasizes that "for months, in order to seek the integration and participation of each and every one of the groups of other nationalities of origin living in Lorca, the PSOE has been promoting an information campaign under the slogan "register to vote."

Antonio Navarro believes that "one of the goals of this campaign is to supply the inability shown by the Popular Party in reporting from government to these groups living in Lorca", it adds that "information is still scarce and very little concrete ; registration deadlines have been very short, reporting officers are not having clear that information and, ultimately, they encounter obstacles Some problems seem to show that, the Popular Party, does not care that these groups eventually. benefiting from their legitimate right to participate in elections ".

"It seems that the PP has not had enough to punish these groups excluding the health system to withdraw the Health Card and Residence Permit denying aliens who are out of work, but also seems unwilling to vote," adds Antonio Navarro.

"Therefore, since the Socialists demand that registration deadlines may be long upon the Electoral Roll and properly report these citizens of their right to participate in the upcoming municipal elections of May 24," he concludes.
