President Garre highlights "the transformation of the new neighborhood of La Viña, designed to boost civic life" (17/03/2015)

The pedestrianization of the interior streets, trade routes and new landscaped areas, invigorate social activity in the area

The total investment of the Community in the recovery of the city of Lorca after the earthquakes amounted to 185 million euros

The president of the Community, Alberto Garre, said today the "major transformation experienced Lorca La Viña, thanks to the refurbishment which has conducted the Community and which involves an investment of 5.8 million euros ".

One project, Garre said, "designed to encourage civic life and provide a higher quality of life for residents."

The Chief Executive, accompanied by the mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, and the Minister of Development, Public Works and Planning, Francisco Barnabas, today visited the La Viña, after these renovations, which he said has been executed "They have made a complete renovation of all public space", regenerating both the services and the flooring, and other measures to improve energy efficiency and dynamization of social activity.

For the president Garre, "Lorca Lorca and deserved to recover one of the neighborhoods most affected after the earthquakes in the best conditions".

In that regard, he thanked the solidarity of neighbors, and highlighted the efforts of all administrations, local, regional and state.

"I am proud of Lorca, proud of the region and Spain, which has managed to devote himself absolutely necessary to correct the devastating effects of a disaster such as occurred in 2011," he added.

Three axes: green, sport and commercial

Alberto Garre said the goal was "to offer better quality of life for residents of La Viña, and for this we have prioritized three areas: commercial, green and sporty, interacting and resulting in a functional area attractive and promoting commercial and social activity of the neighbors. "

In terms of economic and social activity, has created a major commercial hub in the Harvest Avenue, prepared for the installation of a weekly market;

and a secondary axis formed by the two pedestrian streets that intersect with the main square in the Uffizi.

On actions to promote physical and cultural activity, highlights the pedestrianization of most of the streets to roam around on foot or by bicycle.

Specifically, the interiors have been pedestrianized road, leaving only traffic neighborhood perimeter roads and streets and Pottery Harvest Avenue to the square of the Uffizi.

President Garre said that the works of channeling Rambla Demoiselles and creating a new garden "give answer to a historical demand of the neighbors of the Vineyard".

On the other hand, a new space for the neighborhood is won, as in the new garden Rambla, which is projected as a linear green space with an abundance of plant species, in which a multitude of uses are developed outdoors, sporting, cultural, leisure and direct relationship with nature.

The garden area is configured with the character of square, protected by the orchard pergola, urban gardens and space provided for the installation of a kiosk-bar to invigorate the use of the square by the neighbors.

Works in other neighborhoods

After completion of the works of La Viña, the Community will continue with the districts of Alfonso X and San José, in addition to works in the neighborhood of San Diego and other performances in San Fernando and San Pedro, as well as works of accessibility to the castle.

On October 31, the Community signed with the City of Lorca a collaboration agreement for the implementation of actions in different areas of the city affected by the earthquakes of May 2011, whose development is expected in 2015-2016 annuities.

Among the actions that collects the agreement include the renovation of the street Eulogio Periago, Santa Clara Avenue, Avenue Europe and adjacent spaces, street Abellaneda neighborhood of San Cristobal, Alameda Cervantes and adjacent spaces, Avenida Juan Carlos I, renewal urbanization in the neighborhood of Los Angeles and Apolonia and Avenue of the Armed Forces, neighborhood Virgen de las Huertas-Santa Quiteria and Cristo Rey quarter-Health.

The Chief Executive said that the total investment of these nine performances amounts to more than 38.6 million euros.

"It is our commitment, but also our duty," he added.
