The City Council presented the GeoLORCA project, an initiative to promote the local geological heritage and enhance seismic awareness (08/05/2015)

It consists of two main activities among which there are several workshops for students of 1st ESO and a geological itinerary with several stops to show in a fun and educational way some aspects of the failure of Alhama de Murcia, Lorca and geology the mining heritage

Emergency Councilman, Eduardo Sanchez and Councilwoman Recovery Management and the earthquake in Lorca, Satur Martínez, presented this morning to mark the fourth anniversary of the earthquake in Lorca GeoLORCA project, an initiative to promote geological heritage the municipality of Lorca and to enhance the seismic awareness among society.

In recent years, thanks to initiatives nationally and the Geolodía, it has been shown that society demands more and more activities to disclose the geological heritage of a given territory.

Similarly, geological issues today are like earthquakes and seismic need to enhance awareness among the society make it necessary to initiate new projects closer to all citizens this field of science.

GeoLORCA consists of two main activities, among which are several workshops and a geological itinerary.

The workshops are intended for 300 students of 1st ESO, and will take place on 12 and 13 May at the Captain's House, from 11:00 until 14:00.

This has been designed three different workshops: A first workshop entitled "High Voltage" where students will understand what an earthquake.

A second workshop "Under our feet, traveling on tectonic plates" that will allow the students to know the internal structure of the Earth and plate tectonics.

And finally, "The rocks and minerals of the basin of Lorca" in which students recognize minerals and rocks and discover their uses in our daily lives.

The second activity is a free geological itinerary, to be held on Saturday May 16.

For this we have designed a route that geotourism geologists Murcia and Alicante arranged along several stops show in a fun and educational way some aspects of Alhama de Murcia fault-responsible of the earthquake of 11 May 2011- , Lorca's geology and mining heritage.

With all this, GeoLORCA: Family geology is presented as a geological journey Disclosure for society, in which perfectly combines the latest scientific knowledge on the earthquake with the interpretation of the geological heritage of the environment.
