The Ministry of Public works in the project to build an elevator for access to the Castle of Lorca (14/06/2015)

The estimate for the implementation of this action a budget of 2.4 million euros

The Ministry of Development, Public Works and Planning "continues to advance in the project to build an elevator for access to the Castle of Lorca, with receiving considerations different departments", said the acting Minister, Francisco Barnabas .

"The geological and archaeological study has to be done comprehensively enable to know the terrain profile, both of the horizontal gallery, about 72 meters long, and the vertical hole required for installation of the elevator, about 34 meters deep, and also include the supervision of an archaeologist, "said Barnabas.

The project, with an estimated budget of EUR 2.4 million, includes the installation of an elevator in vertical well with access from the walkway del Castillo, eliminating the current deposit, down, and practicing a horizontal tunnel, properly conditioning in terms of access control, to service the strength, managed by the Consortium Lorca Taller del Tiempo, and the National Parador.

It is planned to put the old way of San Clemente, historical access to the fortress, as an alternative pedestrian access, completing the actions recently undertaken by Culture and consolidating the rock mass in the area covered by the project to ensure the safety of the districts.

The Minister of Development said, "This action will involve the addition of a large tourist attraction to offer that already exists in the City of the Sun, as it will facilitate visitor access to the historical heritage of the Castle of Lorca, the path of San Clemente and Parador ".

Bernabe added that "one of the objectives that the regional government was marked for the recovery of the city was the reactivation of the economic sector, and tourism is undoubtedly one of the engines of growth and job creation."
