The City of Lorca begins the summer campaign in pest control and physical spaces in the 34 schools in the municipality (06/08/2015)

From the Department of Health it is acting in waterways;

in the basement;

solar landfills;

in other municipal agency buildings such as kindergartens, network of shelters, medical and local neighborhood associations or social centers offices;

as well as municipal parks, plazas, parks and gardens

The Councillor for Health of the City of Lorca, Mari Carmen Ruiz Jodar, this morning reported the pest control campaign that launches the Consistory Lorca every summer.

Within this program, 34 public and private schools in the municipality will be bugged and deratted during the last week of August and first week of September so that it is all ready when the children return to school on September 9.

Mari Carmen Ruiz explained that the provision of pest control is carried out on schedule and so that at no point endangers the health of people or cause discomfort or disturbance in the functioning of schools.

For that reason controls match the summer holidays, Easter and Christmas.

The mayor of Health has said that the city of Lorca has hired a company that manages the Comprehensive Service DDD (Disinfection-Pest-Rodent control) and effective control of pigeons (Columba livia var) throughout the municipality.

The species control objects are vector control rodents (rats, mice ...), insects (cockroaches, mosquitoes, fleas ...), other arthropods (ticks, mites ...), pigeons and pathogens;

that under certain conditions may pose a risk to public health and / or economic loss or damage to public property and the quality of life in the city in general.

Ruiz Jodar has indicated that the pest control service also extends to the entire municipality of Lorca, especially considering the following physical spaces: Waterways and chafing;

Comprising underground sewer network with a length of 320.000m, 6,125 manholes, approximately 1,000 scuppers and 2,000 residential connections, lighting, with about 2,500 manholes and traffic light network, with approximately 1,000 boxes;

besides solar landfills;

Municipal agency buildings, including municipal kindergartens and primary schools and early childhood education, municipal network of shelters, 23 medical offices and 39 local neighborhood associations and social centers;

and municipal parks, plazas, parks and gardens

The Councillor for Health explained that the pest control program includes the following actions:

- Regular rodent control treatments, desratonización and decontamination, for that visual inspections and study of each installation is performed continuously, making the treatment according to the needs and the degree of infestation.

- Pigeon control works with eight points capture town and districts.

(In the first 6 months of 2015 they have captured 934 catches in maintaining similar figures in recent years).

- Attention in any season of citizen complaints or claims regarding the emergence of urban plagues in the aforementioned physical spaces.

(So ​​far this year 182 have been served notices of citizens mainly cockroaches and roedeores, followed by ticks).

- Addressing the implications associated with the pests detected in homes of families without financial resources or other social problems that have the mandatory municipal report on the matter and / or for issues which by technical report can be a community health problem whether in the public and private sectors.

Mari Carmen Ruiz, on the other hand, has indicated that deposits and sanitary water networks of schools are considered less likely facility proliferation and spread of Legionella according to Royal Decree 865/2003, of 4 July, by which health and hygiene criteria for the prevention and control of legionellosis.

The mayor of Health has said that however, from the point of view of prevention, to all facilities that use water in their operation, producing aerosol and being located in open areas and public use, and may be susceptible to becoming foci propagation of the disease, they should apply the control and maintenance tasks referred to in that legislation, mandatory.

Ruiz Jodar has stressed that this is why the city of Lorca has hired a company to health hygienic maintenance of such facilities, making cleaning and disinfection before the school year, coinciding with the pest control and collection Samples for Legionella pneumophila.
