Antonia Mari Carmen Ruiz Lopez and the weekly market report on the prevention against heat (10/07/2008)

The councilors of Health and the Mayor of the City of Lorca, Antonio Lopez and Mari Carmen Ruiz, reported this morning at the weekly market in the Garden of the Wheel of preventive measures against heat that should be taken in the months of summer.

Lopez and Ruiz shared the informational brochures and bottles of water beside the information booth set up by the City Council.

Hundreds of Lorca of all ages came to this point to receive the materials on this information and prevention campaign.

Avoid as far as possible direct exposure to the sun in the hottest hours of the day, especially in adults and children, covering the head with a hat and drink plenty of water regularly and offer it to the elderly and children who has the care, are some tips that arise, and avoid playing sports in hot weather and apply adequate sunscreen every skin type.

The departments of Health and the Mayor also recommended increasing consumption of fruits and vegetables, not drinking alcohol, wearing sunglasses and avoiding hot foods approved, inter alia, that planning will also be information boards across the city.

"This is an initiative that developed last year and we will continue to bring forward during these months when temperatures rise to extreme and, consequently, the heat is very oppressive.

In this sense we will distribute among the citizens about 3,000 leaflets containing recommendations, advice and general information to avoid such situations.

Remember that human exposure to high ambient temperatures may cause an alteration of our vital functions in the event that our body is not able to compensate for temperature variations.

In fact, a very high temperature leads to loss of water and electrolytes that are necessary for normal functioning of different organs, "Antonia Lopez recalled.

The mayor of the Mayor, Mari Carmen Ruiz, said that "the heat does not affect all people equally, as there are groups more sensitive to the effects of high temperatures.
