More than 280 works make up the plastic and sculptural artistic heritage that has been inventoried by the Department of Culture (27/08/2008)

Rosa Medina, Councilor of Culture of the Municipality of Lorca, presented the inventory of artistic heritage, particularly plastic and sculptural, the city, which has been done in recent months.

This inventory includes over 280 cards works in the Consistory Lorca, of which 42 are sculptures and 245 paintings.

"Lorca was very important to have a specialized file like this, it is necessary to know what works of art belong to the City Council and, therefore, to the city of Lorca."

It should be borne in mind that since 1989 was not carried out any kind of inventory of the treasures of the city.

All cards made in this new inventory include a description of the work, the author, title, dimensions, technical, and completion date of donation or purchase, source, number of cataloging the inventory, the status of work and other relevant data.

These cards will be computerized and posted on the website of the Municipality of Lorca, in the portal of the Municipal Council for Culture and Celebrations, so they can be viewed by "all Lorca and visitors wishing to explore the artistic heritage of the city," says Medina.

As for the location of the works recorded, most of them, 106 are in the Centro Cultural de Lorca, followed by the city, home to 64 art shows.

We also find other works in the Department of Health (23 works), social services (19 works), Sports (8 pieces), the Theater War (6 works), the Archaeological Museum (8 works), Urban (9 works ), the Center for Higher Open (3 works), the Huerto Ruano (5 works), the various monuments in public space (13 works), Employment (7 works), the Municipal Archives (5 works) and the Tourist Office ( 3 works).

Medina added that "the Palace of Guevara's works are not yet included in the computerized inventory, but in the near future, the large number of artistic works housed in the baroque palace will also be part of this inventory."

In addition, the mayor wanted to review some of the most important municipal ownership, among which "various paintings Barberán Lorca Muñoz and Francisco Rodriguez Larrosa and sculptures by artists from Murcia Quality Plans José Juan González Moreno and Antonio Campos.

It is also important for its huge artistic quality of the Immaculate Councils of the City Hall, which is currently under restoration at the Taller de Murcia Veronicas. "

Since 1989, when the last inventory, municipal ownership have become more than a hundred new works of art.

"I'm extremely satisfied," said Medina, "because this file will be critical to raise awareness of the tremendous artistic heritage of the city, and to encourage strict control in these works, and all who join the city's heritage , consisting of works ranging from the seventeenth century, as The Cavalry Combat, attributed to Juan de Toledo, up to two still lifes Salvador Caro, recent acquisitions of the Consistory.
