The Ministry of Agriculture has invested more than 36 million euros in improving the rural road infrastructure network in the Region of Murcia since 1998
The Minister of Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerdá, said today that the town of Lorca is over 126 kilometers of rural roads upgraded and improved, corresponding to a total of 34 roads have already been completed which serve the farms and "maintain territorial identity of the small villages of the municipality. "
The owner of Agriculture, accompanied by the Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, visited this morning some of the roads of the districts that have been put Lorca through improvement projects and actions undertaken in the last ten years by the Ministry of Agriculture and the city of Lorca.
The fitness of these avenues of service, explained the director of Murcia, "has promoted the development of small rural and environmental and social value, in order to prevent depopulation and to diversify their environment."
In total, both administrations have invested in the last ten years in improving the road infrastructure network of these more than 4 million euros, which were supported by 59 percent by the Ministry of Agriculture, and 41 percent Lorca City Council.
The Minister of Agriculture and Water said that "the Ministry together with the municipalities are acting in the improvement and maintenance of rural roads" for the purpose, he said, to "preserve the diversity of rural areas, increasing social welfare and maintaining our food system. "
For his part Francisco Jodar commented that "in 1998 when proceedings commenced conditioning of road infrastructure in the region through the Regional Plan for the towns of Aguilas, Lorca Mazarrón and South, with which actions were executed conditioning 11.3 kilometers of rural service roads, funded entirely by the Department.
Subsequently signed two agreements with the city of Lorca, in 2001, with the refurbishment of 49 km for 17 roads, and 2006, the latter currently in force until December 2008 "
Under this agreement, has acted on a rural area 66 kilometers, and is working on improving the road surface in the way of Malvaloca and expanding the square and firm on the road Pulpí -Almendricos, due to "heavy traffic of these roads," said Cerda.
These actions have injections of 1.8 million euros to 50 percent paid for by the Department and City Hall.
Improvement of 1,800 kilometers of roads in the Region
Is also expected to improve in this quarter 12 kilometers of service roads of the township, amounting to 624,500 euros, which will conclude the proceedings under the agreement.
It has also prepared a new project in the South benefiting Lorca 16.6 kilometer rural area, with a budget of 950,000 euros, under the Economic Revitalization Plan in the Region of Murcia.
The Ministry of Agriculture has invested in recent years EUR 36.6 million for the refurbishment of over 1,800 kilometers of rural roads in various municipalities of the Region of Murcia, through regional plans, which are written in response to communications between the small villages and farmhouses and perimeters of crops.
In 2008 the Ministry of Agriculture and Water has committed 7 million euros for road infrastructure under the different municipalities of Murcia, which will increase by one million euros for next year.
In the Region of Murcia there are over 5,000 kilometers of rural roads that "we must maintain and keep to boost rural," said the director of Murcia.
