Public Works spends nearly four million euros in improving one of the connections in the municipality of Lorca in Andalusia (19/11/2008)

The Ministry of Public Works and Planning, has spent almost four million euros in improving MU-620 road, linking Pulpí Lorca, and constitutes an important means of communication with the province of Almeria.

The Minister of Public Works and Planning, José Ballesta, visited today, accompanied by the mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, the renovation and reinforcement of the firm, to be completed next December, and that will provide the region a stronger connection Andalusia fast and secure, while improving communications in the town of Lorca and hamlets.

Public Works, through the Directorate General of Highways, has funded the full amount which amounts to 3,704,030 euros, and also includes the construction of a roundabout, whose works have a cost of 178,849 euros.

In the words of counsel, "it is a major project that will develop into one of the busiest roads Lorca, comprising approximately 20 km journey from its origin in Lorca's Purias deputation to the limit with the province of Almeria.

The impact on the safety performance of the 5,000 drivers who travel the road daily, and residents of the districts of Puri Lorca, Listening, Escarihuela, the council of La Campana and Pozo Higuera, a village in which the Ministry has completed the refurbishment of the D-24, which connects Eagles.

Furthermore, the refurbishment of the MU-620, which connects the C-3211 (Lorca-Eagles) in the hamlet of Pozo Higuera, improved communications from the hamlet of Almendricos to Eagles and improved access to Puri schools, and the multipurpose hall in the hamlet, which is located next to the Sierra Almenara Institute.

Safer access to schools

Councilor José Ballesta also visited the works of the roundabout at the intersection of the MU-620 and D-11, which will sort the traffic from the town of Puerto Lumbreras and food processing industries in the area, generating high intensity of heavy vehicles.

This new roundabout will improve access to secondary school and primary school located in the path of the Tower, soon to become the D-11 through the extension of this road from the station to Puerto Lumbreras MU-620, whose works will start in 2009.

More than two million performances in architecture

Moreover, the Minister of Public Works and the Mayor of Lorca this morning signed two agreements for the development of actions in terms of architecture, for which the Ministry through the Directorate General of Housing and Architecture, subsidize the Consistory to 1,350,926 euros, as this will contribute the remaining amount up to EUR 2,017,544 of the total amount of investment.

Through these agreements, Public Works 1,300,000 euros financed the rehabilitation of the Plaza of Spain and its environment, and the restoration of the facade and roof of the Presbytery of Santiago and the churchyard, a performance in which 50,926 euros will be invested.

The project will run in the Plaza of Spain and the environment affects an area of 3,189 square meters and involves the rehabilitation of one of the most emblematic public spaces of the town, dating from the XVI century.

Similarly, the recovery of the parish court of St. James Church, a mansion that was built in the eighteenth century, is a performance of great interest in the architectural value of the infrastructure.
