The autonomous invests 4 million euros in improving the connection to the region southwest of Andalusia through Lorca (19/11/2008)

The Director of Public Works and Planning, José Ballesta, visited today, accompanied by the Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, the renovation and pavement strengthening of MU-620 road, which goes to Pulpí Lorca, and that is an important channel of communication with the east of Almeria, so the action that will end in December, will give the region a more rapid and secure connection to Andalusia, while improving communications in the term Lorca and municipal districts.

The Ministry of Public Works and Planning, through the Directorate General for Transport and Highways, has funded the full amount of the action, amounting to 3,704,030 euros, and also includes the construction of a roundabout, whose works have a cost of 178,849 euros.

In the words of Minister of Public Works, "is a major project that will develop along the entire path of one of the busiest roads Lorca, comprising approximately 20 km journey from its origin in the deputation lorquina of Puri, to the border with the province of Almeria.

The work, which also ends this December, will impact on the safety of the 5,000 drivers who travel the route daily as well as residents of the districts of Puri Lorca, Listening, Escarihuela, the deputation of Bell and Pozo de la Higuera (locality in which the Ministry has completed the refurbishment of the D-24, which connects Pozo de la Higuera with Eagles).

Furthermore, the refurbishment of the MU-620, which connects the C-3211 (Lorca-Eagles) in the hamlet of Pozo Lorca de la Higuera, on the border of Andalucia, improved communications from the hamlet of Almendricos to Eagles and improved access to schools of Puri as well as the multipurpose hall in the hamlet, which is located next to the Sierra Almenara Institute.

The Mayor thanked Councillor effort being made by the Regional Government to improve communications in the municipality of Lorca.

Safer access to schools

Councilor José Ballesta also visited the works of the roundabout at the intersection of the MU-620 and D-11, which will sort the traffic from the town of Puerto Lumbreras and food processing industries in the area, generating high intensity of heavy vehicles.

This new roundabout will provide access to the path of The Tower, which will soon become the road D-11, through the works of extension of this route from Puerto Lumbreras Station to the MU-620, whose works will start in 2009 and improve access to secondary school and primary school located in that path.
