The Youth Council and the AECC come together to undertake joint prevention (04/02/2009)

Youth Councillor of the City of Lorca, Joaquin Ruiz Montalvan and President of the Spanish Association Against Cancer in the Sun City (AECC), Fany White presented this morning at a news conference activities jointly undertake the two institutions for the World Cancer Day, celebrated today

The events will take place tomorrow, February 5 at the Alameda of the Constitution and shall consist of an information campaign, trying to promote sport, healthy eating and balanced, and the distribution of apples as a symbol of healthy eating "

Ruiz Montalvan stressed that "this year, the campaign affects the younger, growth outside of snuff, in the right food and practicing sports.

The selfless work of this association in the city is fundamental and basic, being necessary to inform young people.

The main objective of the 2009 campaign is to combat childhood overweight and obesity, two risk factors that can lead to cancer in adulthood. "

Cancer is a major cause of mortality worldwide.

WHO estimates that, barring any intervention, 84 million people will die of cancer between 2005 and 2015.

Each February 4, WHO is making common cause with the International Union Against Cancer, sponsored by it, promote ways to ease the global burden of disease.

Cancer prevention and increased quality of life of patients are recurring themes.

WHO estimates that 40% of cancers could be prevented by the simple expedient of not using snuff, exercising regularly and maintaining a healthy diet.

Smoking is the leading preventable cause of cancer worldwide.
