The House claims that the National Government to increase the water transferred from the Tagus to the Segura (27/07/2009)

The Full Council of Lorca was approved this morning, with votes for the municipal group popular and the PSOE, with the abstention of UI, the request to the National Government to immediately increase the flow of water transferred from the Tagus to the Segura.

The Corporation has also requested, in this case supported by the popular and the abstention of the Socialists and United Left, the National Government to reduce the cost of water, establishing a single rate throughout the country for each the different uses of water are made, just as happens with the electricity tariff.

The Plenary also requested the Government of the Nation, with the favorable votes of the PP and PSOE and IU abstention from the use of desalination as a complementary system only to transfers, but never as the sole means to provide water flow to the people .

These claims have been brought to the House through a motion that Councilman Water, Melchor Morales, said that water is a precious and necessary for the survival of any population.

Industry and all economic sectors need this well, and, of course, citizens.

However, drought is becoming more acute in the southeastern Spanish and, therefore, is more necessary than ever to find the right solutions for making water accessible to all citizens.

Melchor Morales has said that taking into account the price of water, it should be noted that from 1,998 to 2,004, the price per cubic meter of water was set at 25'30 cents, amounting in the time period covering the years 2004-2009 up to 54'46 cents per cubic meter, ie, an increase of 115%, driven by the high cost of desalinated water.

In fact, the Commonwealth of Taibilla Channels under the Ministry of Environment and Rural and Marine anticipated in their budgets for next year up 15% in water.

The price of desalinated water is unaffordable, Carboneras and Valdelentisco

Water Councilman noted that if we consider that the water obtained under the Tajo-Segura Diversion remains at an average of 12 cents per cubic meter, we see that the cost of desalinated water that is added to the the Diversion is unaffordable for all citizens and, in fact, reject the irrigation water from the Carboneras desalination and Valdelentisco, not financially able to meet the established rates.

Morales has said that although the price of this essential commodity continues to rise for the cost of water from desalination plants, we see how the reserves in the headwaters of the Tagus are up to 500 cubic hectometres, so that could increase the flows decanted .

According to the Judgement of 27 January 2009 the Chamber III of Administrative Litigation of the Supreme Court, the National Government may approve transfers of any size as long as the head of the Tagus there are over 240 stocks hectometres , since, as stated in Article 149.1.22 of the Constitution Spanish, "legislation, regulation and concession of hydraulic resources and when the water flow through more than one Autonomous Region" within the exclusive competence of the State.

Morales: "The PSOE punishes us with predatory pricing"

From the Department of Water indicate that, taking into account the outstanding water use that is made in the Region of Murcia for domestic consumption, water for irrigation, industrial reuse and wastewater reuse, not can understand that the National Government not to increase the flows decanted, just as you do not understand that the Central Executive punish abusive Murcia with water prices, which threaten to destroy the agricultural, livestock and industrial and seriously impair quality of life for all Murcia.
