Lorca became the first city in the region in having a Bike Unit Municipal Emergency Service (25/08/2009)

The city of Lorca today has become the first municipality in the Autonomous Region in having a Bike Unit Municipal Emergency Service, which will support the prevention of any impact on the public highway, and cooperation will aim with other emergency services, police and social attention to groups at risk of exclusion and information and advice to residents and visitors.

CYCLING UNIT OF MUNICIPAL EMERGENCY SERVICE

Background:

Current Context:

Lorca is currently undergoing a profound change in regard to its urban fabric, its road structure and expansion of green areas, through a number of important public works, which will give priority to pedestrians and bicycle daily traffic.

In this sense, from the Department of Safety and Emergency, we have an obligation to support and care through non-intrusive, citizens who use public spaces in our city.

Actions to be undertaken:

From September this new service will be established on a permanent basis, being present in different areas of our city as pedestrian streets and green areas.

This unit consists of eight cycling members of the Municipal Emergency Services, which partners will cover the needs that arise.

Having four bicycles adapted to these missions.

This new unit will give special attention in the month of September at various festive events that traditionally take place in our city.

Missions:

The primary mission of this new unit is to prevent any impact on the public highway, and pay close attention to the citizen.

Also develop the following:

First responders with the basic tools that can be transported on bicycles.

Cooperation with other emergency services, police, and social, for the prevention of critical situations in public.

Attention will be given to groups at risk of exclusion, ensuring in particular the elderly, women and children.

Working with municipal maintenance services to maintain at all times the quality of the elements of the street.

Support for various municipal services in the enforcement of compliance with various ordinances.

Information and advice to residents and visitors.
