Cerda said that health guarantees regional livestock are indicators of trust to increase marketing (10/09/2009)

Lorca and the High Guadalentín for more than 40 percent of pig farms in the Region

The Minister of Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerdá, said today that the animal health guarantees for regional livestock are "confidence indicators" to increase market shares, adding that in the Region of Murcia "strictly comply" with the health condition to export pigs to levels of quality demanded by the international market.

The owner of Agriculture made the remarks at the presentation of the XLII National Week of Pigs, held from 14 to 17 September in Lorca, which was accompanied by the Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar and SEPOR manager , Patrick Bermudez.

Cerda said that "the leading Murcia, near the province of Lleida, pig production in Spain, with a census which represents 10 percent of the national total, and in particular the town of Lorca and the High Guadalentín are "logistics areas of livestock, with 46 percent of the regional pig farms.

In addition, this sector generated 10,000 jobs Murcia direct and annual revenue of 340 million euros, representing 70 percent of the final output density and 20 percent of the regional final agricultural production.

Experienced Forum

The National Week of Pigs "is the most important exhibition and experienced" of all national livestock and "a platform of knowledge and debate," said Cerda.

The program of activities of this new edition is aimed at seeking ways to address the crisis, including a Pig International Symposium, in which renowned experts will address strategies to increase the sector's presence in international markets.

Also developed seminars and conferences on various aspects related to quality and food safety of meat products, reducing emissions, environmental management and traceability as well as the current status of livestock and its prospects.

The event will also feature an exhibition of selected animals from the livestock species most socio-economic impact in the Region of Murcia, such as pigs, cattle, sheep and goats.
