What is MS?

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, neurodegenerative and non-infectious central nervous system, intermittently affecting the white matter of the brain and spinal cord.

It is, therefore, a demyelinating disease.

The loss of myelin causes serious diseases of nervous system disorders, because the electrical impulses are not conducted with sufficient speed or stop in the middle of the axons.

Although its causes are unknown, are believed to be autoimmune, and in this case the immune system attacks the myelin to be considered as an unknown substance outside the body, the myelin is destroyed, replaced by hardened scar tissue (sclerosis).

This destruction was carried out in different and multiple locations, hence its name Multiple Sclerosis.
