The City of Lorca and the Autonomous Community are launching a Classroom Occupational prevent absenteeism among pupils aged 15 (16/10/2009)

The Councillor for Education of the City of Lorca, José Joaquín Peñarrubia, and Councilwoman Social Care, Lali Ibarra, have announced that this week has started the first course in Occupational Classroom offered in the municipality to prevent truancy among students 15.

Peñarrubia explained that the Municipal Centre of La Torrecilla is hosting this training in basic instrumental techniques and workshop pre-work for these kids, this course focuses on the specialty of gardening.

"We want to encourage these young people attend classes where they can learn a trade which later may develop more professionalism and more job opportunities," the mayor stressed.

Occupational Classroom depends on the Ministry of Education, Training and Employment with the City Council would work Lorca, through which municipal officers of Department of Education, Employment and Social Services collaborate in the implementation and development.

Ibarra said "with this new program provides an educational alternative to students who for various reasons, leaving schools before the age of 16 years."

To this end the Ministry of Education provides a teacher and a teacher's technical expertise, while the Consistory provides the facilities.

"From City Hall, from the hand of the Autonomous Region, continue to work with initiatives such as this and the Local Board of absenteeism for attaining reduce the number of children who leave their training," recalled the City Council.
